Here in Maryland, private wells aren’t as regulated as public water systems, which means homeowners are responsible for making sure their water is safe.

Some contaminants, including bacteria and nitrates, can be present without changing the taste, smell, or appearance of your water.

✅ Our recommendation: Have your well water tested for bacteria and nitrates at least once a year. Additional testing may be recommended based on your location, your well, or changes in your water quality.
