Adding some Syrian Bread to the menu today at the store and tomorrow at the Beaver Farmers Market. Many of you love to use this soft flatbread for pizza, and it’s also delicious with an ultra premium extra virgin olive oil! novelbreadsco

Here is the second half of the bread menu for tomorrow’s Applefest. I’m bringing out the Mummies early this year, since so many are celebrating Halloween-themed events all month. There are also several new additions such as the Autumn Granola Bread filled with apples, pumpkin, cranberries, pecans and warming spices. There are also Brown Butter Bagel Cookies, combining the shape and dough of sourdough bagels with the cookie crunch and sweetness. Praline Spread made with toasted pecan coated in a simple syrup and ground into a spread is also new to the menu. Apple Ginger English Muffins are making their seasonal appearance. Rounding out the comfy, savory bites are the Mushroom & Chives loaves and the Mashed Potato Focaccia, both of which are made with homegrown chives and are perfect accompaniments to any soup this fall. Come see us on Pittsburgh St and stop in the store for books and more. Saturday, 10am-4pm for the Mars Applefest!!!

Back from vacation and have already started prepping for Mars’ Applefest this coming Saturday. Mascarpone Spread is really delicious on anything and everything and will pair nicely with the Apple themed goodies you pick up at the event. Also wanted to share some pics from my eventful staycation. We took a world tour this past week with our palates. As pictured here, we dined on Uzbek food for the first time at Afsona on McKnight Rd. Very interesting cuisine! We tried their dumplings, puff pastry and pulled noodles, the latter was my favorite. There was also a trip to Tana, the Ethiopian Restaurant in East Liberty. We dined on a vegetarian sampler (featured in the last image) and enjoyed this truly unique cuisine. The friend who took us to Tana also gave me an electric griddle meant for making the Ethiopian injera flatbread used as a utensil when dining on the cuisine. There was a visit to Panaderia Jazmin Panaderia Jazmin who makes the best and most colorful co**ha breads that I’ve tried. There was Italian cuisine at the Murder Mystery Dinner we attended and homemade gumbo on my birthday to make me feel like I was back in New Orleans. Bourbon and books were also on our menu as we enjoyed a bourbon tasting in Harmony and a New Orleans bourbon with the gumbo. My mother and I love to check out libraries wherever we visit. First, we enjoyed the Mt Lebanon Library with its interesting reads and quaint bookstore on the bottom level that book crawl participants raved about. We also trekked up to Erie to simply enjoy their beautiful library, with its very cool idea lab for adults who want to tinker with 3D printing, lazer cutting, sewing and more. Of course there was plenty of time at home, snuggling with my babies (Tia and Oubie), reading books and relaxing with my loved ones. So, I’m back from vacation and ready to stick my hands in the dough.

Good Morning, All! I wanted to draw your attention to a wonderful event happening today in Valencia, PA. Wildbird Recovery in Stormy Oaks Conservancy is hosting their 15th Annual Fall Migration Festival where the community is invited to learn about wild birds and how to protect them as well as meet the longtime residents like 18-year-old Kele (pictured here).

As one of their ambassador birds, Kele has been at Wildbird Recovery for 18 years. He was a week old when he fell out of his nest and permanently damaged his wing, lungs and beak, making it impossible for him to return to the wild. He, along with a small cadre of other ambassador birds are active in educating the community about the life and needs of such birds. In addition to caring for injured birds, they work toward releasing birds of prey and song birds to their natural habitat as well as caring for horses and honey bees and more.

This event is rich with educational and interactive activities while also being an important fundraiser for the nonprofit. At Novel Breads Co., we honored to get a tour of the lovely grounds and meet the lovely birds who call the place home. It was our pleasure to meet the family who has made it their lifelong vocation to care for nature and to help others learn how they can do the same. We were happy to donate a big basket toward today’s raffle.

Stop out to Stormy Oaks this afternoon and enjoy a taste of nature. For more information, go to https://www.wildbirdrecovery.org/fall-migration-festival/
