I am LOVING these egg colors! The greens, slightly blues, and all the different shades of brown are looking amazing!

Right now my ISA Browns and some of my Easter Eggers are laying, but we’re about to get even more variety! My other Easter Eggers and Rhode Island Reds, hatched at the beginning of March, should start laying any day now.

I can’t wait to see what colors they add to the basket!

Money can’t buy happiness but it can buy chickens and chickens make me happy. I guess that’s the same thing right?

There’s just something better about farm fresh eggs!

Fresh eggs go from the nesting box to your kitchen without spending weeks being processed, transported, and sitting on a store shelf. They have rich, golden yolks, firmer whites, and amazing flavor, and when you buy local, you know exactly where your eggs came from and how the hens are cared for.

Egg delivery day!

Look at what my pretty girls have been laying! I’m so excited about all the beautiful colors and variations we’re getting different shades of brown, green, and blue.

Every carton is a little different, and I absolutely love seeing what the girls give us each day. Fresh eggs are headed out for delivery!

🐔🏖️ From Mud Pit to Chicken Beach! 🏖️🐔

Our chicken run had officially turned into a MUD PIT anytime we got enough rain. 😂 Muddy feet, muddy chickens, muddy eggs… just mud EVERYWHERE.

So, we decided it was time for an upgrade and brought in play sand! And so far, we’re loving the change.

There are actually quite a few benefits to having sand in the run:

🐓 Better drainage Instead of standing water and a giant muddy mess, the sand helps keep the surface much drier.

🧹 Easier cleanup Chicken p**p can be raked or scooped out instead of getting mixed into wet, muddy soil.

🪰 Helps with flies & odor A drier run means less of the wet, smelly environment that flies love.

🛁 Built-in dust bathing Our girls can scratch, dig, roll around, and dust bathe to their hearts’ content.

🐾 Less muddy feet Which also means less mud getting tracked into the coop and nesting boxes!

🌧️ No more swamp after every rainstorm!

We’ll still be keeping an eye on drainage, regularly removing droppings, and making sure the sand stays clean and dry, but this already feels like a HUGE improvement.

Our former mud pit has officially become a chicken beach. 😂🏖️🐔

YAY FOR EASTER EGGS!

…No, not the chocolate filled kind you’re thinking of. 😂

One of our Easter Egger girls officially laid her FIRST blue/green egg!!

We are probably way more excited than any normal person should be over an egg, but LOOK AT THAT COLOR 🤣

After patiently waiting for these girls to start paying their rent, it’s finally happening!

🙌🏼 We are beyond excited to start adding some more beautiful colors to our egg basket.

Now the real question is… WHO DID IT?! 👀🐔

Let the colorful egg collection begin!

It’s been a while since I last posted, so here’s a little coop and flock update! 🐥

Back in June, we added two ducks to our flock, and I’m pretty sure one of them is a drake. 🤣 They absolutely love hanging out with all the girls!

Our chickens are getting so close to laying! We currently have one laying hen, our 1 year old ISA Brown, and we’re eagerly waiting on our other girls, 5 Easter Eggers and 4 Rhode Island Reds. It won’t be long now!

Now for the next adventure… once these girls are all laying, I just have to figure out how to convince my partner that we need a quail coop. 🤣 Wish me luck!

You're going to laugh at this...

The two Isa Browns I picked up on Friday are already laying eggs. They both gifted me butt nuggets on Saturday, and since Sunday I've been getting one butt nugget a day from one of them (although I have no idea which one).

Here's the problem: both girls seem completely normal, like nothing is wrong. One of them appears to lay like clockwork in the exact same spot every day... or at least I think it's the same girl.

But chickens being chickens, I know it's perfectly normal for a hen to skip a day or two. Still, I'm suspicious. I have a feeling the other gal is laying too and just hiding them somewhere.

So now my daily routine has turned into an exciting game of: "Where did you hide your butt nuggets today?"
