I’m still pretty new at this chicken-keeping/breeding thing, and let me tell you… mistakes have been made. 😂

I’ve definitely ended up with some poor-quality birds along the way. I’ve had BCMs that were supposed to lay those beautiful dark chocolate eggs… and instead gave me TAN. 🫠

After learning a LOT the hard way, I’ve sold off most of my flock and I’m getting ready to start over with a much more intentional breeding program.

So here’s my question for those of you who have been doing this longer than I have:
When you’re building a flock, which do you prefer to buy:

🥚 Hatching eggs
🐣 Chicks
🐔 Started/l​aying hens

And WHY?

I’ve been burned by all three, so I’m genuinely curious what you’ve learned from your own experiences. 😂
