So, I took all of these grapes and juiced them. Then I brought them to a boil on the stove and rendered them down to a thick syrup.
In the middle east they call this grape molasses. They make drinks out of it and use it in baking, like cookies.
I'm so excited. I can't wait for it to cool down.
The two large jars are pulp. I'm going to condense it down and use it to make ginger bread cookies and some zucchini bread.
Part two of two: that's because we harvested over 30 lbs of them. These are just the vines growing on our trellis over our deck off our back door.
Part one of two; our grapevines are sadly bare.
Such a blessing to be able to put away your own produce for winter. New potatoes, blanched and ready to freeze.
Thank you, Vince, for making this possible.
To all of our Facebook followers. Like any new small business we need to find inexpensive and effective ways to market ourselves. One of the best ways is via direct email. We wanted to ask if you would be willing to add your email to our list. You can look forward to no more than 2-emails per week...probably less...with specials offers or instructional videos and articles. For Everyone interested we ask you email us or pm with the email address you would like us to use. In return you will be entered into a draw for a $25.00 gift certificate. We will make the draw Wednesday, August 23. 2023.
What you are seeing is a Chinese 5 Pepper Plant. Five, because that is how many different colors they turn. Gorgeous sweet-hot pepper. We have them in nice sized pots with creeping rosemary. These can be brought in for winter so you can have herbs and heat all winter long! Will have some at Marshfield Farmers Market, Friday and off course you can set an appointment to come out to the Nursery as well!!
I'm just repotting some beautiful Merritt Supreme hydrangeas today, getting ready to reopen in a couple weeks. They are looking great.
As we approach late summer, keep your garden in bloom for pollinators!
Monarch butterflies rely on nectar for food, but come August and September, many of their go-to blooms begin to die back. Planting late-blooming species now can help monarchs when they need it most - as they are making their long journey to Mexico and building up fat stores for overwintering.
For ideas of what to plant, check out this “Top 12” list of plants for monarchs. Learn more about how you can create monarch-friendly habitat by visiting the wimonarchs.org.
Extremely Rare BUENA MULATA peppers. Believed to originate in Africa these rate 40,000 Scoville compared to Jalapeno at 5000 and Habanero t at 200,000. They are unique with a sweet heat perfect for Jollof Rice or a unique hot sauce recipe. We will also have German Butterball Potatoes...my all-time favorite potato and yes there IS a difference. Also who wants Fried Green Tomatoes for a weekend breakfast...we've got them. Come see us Friday 2:30 - 6:30 Marshfield Farmers Market!!
The Hellenium Banderas aka Bears Breeches and I are ready for the day. Hope to see many of you out here at the shade house, even if it is just for a visit.
I needed to read this this morning: “When God shall give you a rich return for all you have done for him, you will blush to think you ever doubted; you will be ashamed to think you ever grew weary in his service. You shall have your reward. Not tomorrow, so wait: not the next day perhaps, so be patient. You may be full of doubts one day, your joys sink low. It may be rough windy weather with you in your spirit. You may even doubt whether you are the Lord’s, but if you have rested in the name of Jesus, if by the grace of God you are what you are, if he is all your salvation, and all your desire, — have patience; have patience, for the reward will surely come in God’s good time.” (Spurgeon)
Just wanted to thank everyone for coming to the market today. Looking forward to seeing more tomorrow. We are most grateful for your business and the conversations.
