We have a fridge full of pasture raised eggs and chicken! Some of the chicken will be made into fresh dog food as well as chicken feet treats. We still have 27 more chickens to process and have a group of broilers set aside so we can keep incubating their eggs. Our goal is to have at least 75 broilers growing through winter in our indoor shelter.

PS the goats are doing well. If the bucks are doing their job, we should have some babies by early spring.

A couple of our friends came up to help remodel the guest house. One managed to take this photo of lightning hitting our canyon. This morning I found a bit of broken fencing in the area with a charred wooden post on the ground a couple of feet away from the break.

Might have snagged some Black Diamond chicks today! Of course I had to share some with my friends over at D&N Farm . Can’t wait for these little goth cuties to start laying 🖤Our pullet count is currently at 24 with two confirmed roosters thus far. My incubator is anxiously awaiting its first round of eggs.

Some fellow farming friends came by for a few days to check out the place and lend a hand. We got the goats outside in a moveable pen and rewarded the girls with a creek side picnic. Now to get the rest of the chickens out and fertilizing as well as the seedlings in the ground.

What do you do when mom and dad are building a coop? Turn packaging materials into beds and books. Eventually they became a roller coaster and a double slide. They had some faux kites working for a while as well. These kids have no idea how lucky they are to live somewhere with minimal wifi.

That’s one way to load 16ft hog panels 😂 Thank you to boys at Tractor Supply for helping me finagle these into the truck. It took 4 of us and a lot of trust in the tie downs. Now we can move the goats out of their temporary kidding barn and onto the pasture.

Would you believe me if I said this petite steak is actually the loin chop of a goat?! I had purchased our goats for the sole purpose of milking but after trying these loin chops, I’m sold. They were seasoned with a blend of salt, pepper, onion, jalapeño, garlic, and rosemary powder then grilled on the charcoal Weber for 5 minutes on each side. Perfectly cooked medium rare (more on the rare side). The fat was delicious too. Zero gamey flavour. My brain legit registered it as steak…from a cow… so good 🤌 Thank you to D&N Farms for the taste test 🖤

My son was home for spring break and spent a lot of it riding around in the side by side, taking scenic photos like these. Note the change between a couple days of sun and a couple hours of light snow.

Sent Madelynne down to feed Martini. All of the sudden we hear her on the walkie talkie saying that there were babies down there. Cole and I looked at each other like, “no way” since Martini hadn’t shown any 24 hours till go time kind of signs the night before. Then madelynne says, “4 babies!” so now we really thought she was joking. This was Martini’s 2nd pregnancy and the scan had only confirmed 2. We walkied back, “good one, madelynne” to which she replied, “no really! Get down here!” We all jumped up, ran down to her pen, and sure enough, there were 4 babies just hanging out with mama like they’d been there for days. All cleaned up, only two needing their cords trimmed. Everyone seems to be doing well thus far.
