Harrison and I combined our large sunflower field this evening. Overall pretty poor crop this season due to a combination of a not so great field and very wet season. Sunflowers do not like wet feet and this field has some heavy wet areas. On the bright side we still have our double crop field to harvest once it’s dry.
We did have some success with our companion crop of white climbing beans. With the flowers being so short I was able to use the bean head on the combine which did well harvesting the beans in one pass. It should be an easy task to separate the two with the seed cleaner.
For next year, I need some larger seed cell plates to get the bean population correct at planting and make a dedicated header with sunflower pans or retrofit JD all-crop head to fit the Massey 750.
