"Do you have any greens?"
..Trust me, I've tried that. Getting grocery stores or mom and pop shops to contract your goods isn't that simple. They want the best price, as do I. Here is another example of costs/profit/throwaway....right at 400$ worth of product went into the chicken pen today. Add that to the 260$ electric bill, 189$ seed bill, 120$ soil bill, and the time spent in the grow building picking through the sunflower trays, watering, turning, adjusting temps/humidity, and wrangling my toddler through it all to make 46$ on greens in a weekend is not plausible to continue to dump money into until contracts are signed and yield amounts are agreed upon for wholesalers. The farmers market/swaps were never expected to make up any majority of the business, but as the demand kept going up, sales didn't. I appreciate those customers who kept coming back and we aren't gone for good. Treading water for now, and as I mentioned in previous posts, focusing on much needed repairs to the greenhouse and indoor grow building.
