Yesterday, we had beautiful weather and were able to retag the cows. Tagging is used to help ranchers keep records for his herd. For us, they are used to keep track of age and also calf pairing. We will tag the calf with the same number as the cow so that we can keep pairs together and asses any problems that may arise. The first number is the year the cow was born (ex. 601 is a seven year old cow born in 2016) and the next numbers are just for identification.

March 15th came awfully early this year. First calf hit the ground today. Not ideal weather with below -20 degrees wind chill but both calf and momma doing well in the barn. Very unexpected but a healthy live calf is all that matters.

Well we are starting over. On Sunday, Hannah and I pickup up the new herd from Saint Francis, Kansas. 9 bred cows, black and black white face, were suppose to start calving march 15th but the next post will show why that’s a lie haha. Excited for these dolls! Stay tuned as I hope to post more.

Along with the cows, we have a few more kritters part of J Double G to introduce. First, we have Chuckers. The trusty stead. Next is Winston, the cow dog sheepadoodle and finally the good ole barn cat. An honorable mention has to be given the Cooper. He unfortunately passed away a few ago but was the best damn ranch dog out there.

Moved the herd to grass a few weeks ago! Finally got some much need moisture to get the grass growing and greened up. Just a few weeks away from calving. Will try to post more and share more this summer.

Welcome to J Double G Cattle Company. In January of 2022, I accomplished a long time dream and purchased 12 bred cows. They are set to calves in June-July, where I look to expand both the herd and the business. My goal is to raise quality cattle to sell both as steers/heifers and as beef. My other goal is to use this opportunity to educate and raise awareness about the ranching industry. There are plenty of misconceptions and lies being told about agriculture and I want to help clear those up. My hope is to document and show all stages of life of the cattle so you have a better idea of what goes on, on the ranch. Please feel free to message with any questions and comments! Thank you.
