But every once in a while, even the hardest working members of the crew deserve a day off.

That’s one of the things I love most about living on the Lost Coast. When it’s time to recharge, incredible natural beauty is never far away.

And nobody enjoys a day at the beach quite like Moxie. 💚🐾🌊

A funny thing happened in our worm bin.

Last year’s pumpkin fed the family.

The scraps fed the worms.

The worms created rich castings and nutrient-dense worm tea.

And now? New pumpkin seedlings are sprouting from the very system that old pumpkin helped create.

Nothing wasted.

Everything transformed.

That’s the kind of magic we believe in at Rainbow’s End Humboldt.

The tomatoes growing in our nursery.
The microgreens on our table.
The herbs drying in our kitchen.
The soil beneath our feet.

It’s all connected.

Every harvest becomes the next beginning.

Every season teaches the next lesson.

And every week we’re working to bring a little more abundance to our corner of the Lost Coast.

Great news from the greenhouse…

The next round of seeds is officially in the dirt. 🌿☀️

Summer squash is on the way.

Right now it may not look like much:
just trays,
soil,
labels,
water,
light.

But every season begins like this.

Quietly.

Before the leaves.
Before the harvest.
Before the abundance.

This stage always reminds me of something important:

You don’t plant seeds because you already see the fruit.

You plant because you understand the process.

The dirt doesn’t panic when nothing has sprouted yet.

It knows what’s happening underneath the surface.

Out here on the Lost Coast, the land teaches patience better than any classroom ever could.

Preparation matters.
Timing matters.
Conditions matter.

And growth rarely announces itself all at once.

First comes the rooting.

Then the breakthrough.

Where Hope Takes Root 🌿

Remember the seedling that went searching?

The one with transplant shock?

The one that stretched too far looking for water and struggled when it came time to transition?

Well…

Look at it now.

🌱

Not perfect.
Not untouched.
Not instantly recovered.

But rooted.

The older leaves still tell the story of the stress it went through. You can see the weathering if you look closely.

But the center?

The center is alive and reaching upward again.

That’s the thing about transplant shock.

It can look like failure from the outside when really it’s just the process of adaptation.

Some plants need extra recovery time after the move.

Some people do too.

The important part isn’t whether the transition was smooth.

The important part is whether the roots finally decided to hold.

And once they do…

Growth returns naturally.

Out here on the Lost Coast, the land keeps teaching the same lesson over and over again:

Strong roots are patient.
