On this episode of God do what He want and we do what we can….

This watermelon plant was BURNT AND BEAT DOWN during the heat wave…which is why you don’t transplant in extreme weather but I didn’t care frfr.

Anyway, I saw that it had two surviving leaves so I didn’t pull it. After a few weeks it started showing signs of life but I ignored it and focused on my veggies. To my surprise WE’VE GOT ACTION! Better late than neverrrr!

Today’s super quick lunch harvest.

Our very first Jack o lantern 🎃of the season had to be harvested early thanks to squash vine borers! Admittedly, I didn’t stay on top of pest control this year but they have decimated our zucchini, yellow squash and pumpkin. 🥴

Anyway…I can’t remember how many pounds we’ve harvested thus far but we’ve definitely cleared 60lbs of produce.

Grab some fresh produce this Saturday at Barns at New Market!!! We’ll have Jalapeños, bell peppers, okra, tomatoes and assorted herbs!!

We’re within the “Heat Dome” that’s going to produce extreme weather in the DC area. Shading the garden is an absolute necessity to give the plants a fighting chance.

Tips:

-EARLY MORNING WATER BEFORE THE SUN COMES UP! DEEEEEEEEP WATER IF YOU CAN.

-Harvest anything you can to help the plants conserve energy

-SHADE YOUR GARDEN with light weight flowy fabric. DO NOT USE PLASTIC!

-No fertilizer, transplanting!

-MOST IMPORTANTLY! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO GARDEN CHORES DURING PEAK HEAT! It’s not worth it and heat stroke is SERIOUS BUSINESS!
