The amount of time and work Kylie has put into her cow paid off for her this weekend at the District Fair. She was complimented by the judge on not only her overall condition, but how well she was presented, and how much hair sheā€™s been able to keep on her cow despite the heat weā€™ve had. All that work is her, Kylie puts the time and effort in herself, this is her cow and her project and she has done an amazing job with her. Champion Maintainer, Champion Exotic Heifer, Grand Champion Registered Heifer, Supreme Overall Heifer and Reserve Senior Showman.

One of Maddieā€™s goals this year was to win in showmanship. All year long sheā€™s put in the work, sheā€™s listened, sheā€™s taken advice from anyone wanting to help her improve. Sheā€™s lost and learned from the losses, she kept working and trying harder. And this weekend it finally paid off for her, Champion Junior Showman šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ».

Every year at the county fair, Kylie sets two big goals for herself ā€” Supreme Registered Heifer and Champion Senior Showman. This year, her final county fair, she was hoping to go out on topā€¦ and she did just that! ā¤ļø We couldnā€™t be more proud of her hard work, dedication, and the way she finished this chapter.

This is one of our favorite bred and owned females. You get to see names like Pemberton or JCL come into the mix with show heifers at a steep price, half of them wonā€™t breed and they end up in the freezer. Telling you guys Wangen cattle out of Minnesota is one of best seed stock breeders of Red Angus cattle in the country. Good mommas, work well on pasture, and they give you females like this when you breed them right. Stop chasing county fair glory and build a herd that makes good cattle.

This is what it is actually about. Itā€™s not about winning, itā€™s not selling calves, itā€™s about putting a work ethic into your kids that will help them be successful no matter what they do. Yup I got a picture from the truck where the AC is on, I do not take care of their show cattle, has she complained once, nope. I love raising cattle, but the truth is I donā€™t really care if my kids stay with it. But I promise you this, these kids will be able to eat anyone alive in any field they go into.

Love these two, outside of the show ring sheā€™s never too serious but we love seeing her have fun and love what she does šŸ’™šŸ’™.

We make all of them do the work. We may go behind them and correct the mistakes, but they only get better as they practice.

People always ask Kylie how she keeps hair on her cow even in the heat of the summer in Arkansas. Lots of barn time during the day so sheā€™s out of the sun and heat, fans on her during the day, rinsing and keeping her hide cool and working her hair everyday.

Sometimes things donā€™t go right. The banners and fun videos are what people like to see, it makes everyone feel good but thatā€™s not what it comes down to. Itā€™s a kid keeping an animal alive, itā€™s making a note that a breeding didnā€™t go the way you wanted it to, itā€™s knowing there is another generation learning from you and knowing that it keeps going when your gone. If this calf makes it, itā€™s a good day, but tomorrow we talk about her momma, the bull we choose to use, and decide what to do to keep breeding better cattle.
