Why choose our birds?
Yes! They are more costly to purchase than the grocery store chicken, but when you compare the health benefits to conventional chicken. It’s a no brainer to pay a little more!
• Pasture-raised chicken contains higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 is the “good fat” that supports heart and brain health. Omega-3 balances out Omega-6 leaving the meat with a better fat ratio. This better fat ratio means anti-inflammatory benefits. Something that super market chicken cant compete with.
• Chickens raised on open pasture have more access to vitamin-rich plants. As a result, their meat often contains more Vitamin E (an antioxidant that supports immune function) and Vitamin A (important for vision and immunity) than conventional chickens.
• If you’re watching your fat intake, pasture-raised chicken is a smart choice. Analyses of pastured poultry found it can have 21% less total fat and about 30% less saturated fat compared to conventionally raised chicken. The chickens get plenty of exercise roaming the pasture, which leads to leaner muscle development. You’re getting high-quality protein without as much of the unhealthy fats.
• Pasture-raised birds have access to diverse forage, which can increase antioxidant compounds in their meat. Along with vitamin E, pastured poultry can have more antioxidants like carotenoids. These help protect your cells from damage.
• Better Taste (Bonus!): While this post focuses on nutrition, it’s worth noting that many people find pasture-raised chicken tastier. The chickens’ active lifestyle and diverse diet give the meat a richer flavor and firmer texture that you just don’t get from a supermarket broiler. It’s the perfect example of “healthy doesn’t have to taste bad!”
