This lady right here doesn't get all the credit she deserves sometimes. She has been my go-to gal for some time now. She has been my better half and my wife for one year and five months and a day or two. We have raised over 45 head of cattle since we started in the cattle business in December of 2018, only 4 months after we started dating. She has over come every obstacle that has been placed before us and has dragged me right along with her. In March of this year we decided it was time for a career change for myself, because we were ready to starting trying to have children.
In 2018 I was working off on a rotation and had the bright idea to purchase 2 bottle calves to start our herd. Got the home and through many obstacles and advice, friends of ours coming to the rescue ( Britt Magee ) and this lovely lady's caring hands we turned off some pretty good calves. A few months in laurel has an accident that put a halt on the calf raising for several months and my soon to be mother and father in law ( Tracey Haynes Crawford & Randy Crawford ) came to help while I was off to work and laurel was out of commission.
2019 we had these girls bred and our #2 cow slipped hers 7 weeks early and thankfully I was home when it happened. Then November 1st of the same year comes around and i get a phone call at work and a picture of our very first, born on the farm, calf. Laurel tells me it's a bull calf and I'm thinking alright got one to sell next year. She names it theo after her grand daddy. I get home and check the calf and what do you know, it's a heifer so her name quickly changes to theodora lol.
All of that to say this about the picture, I may be the muscles here at Diamond G Farms but she is the backbone of the whole operation. If it weren't for her, the dreams I ventured would have never been put in place.
So here we are almost 3 years later, the cow on the right, and the cow on the left was our starting point and our first calf in the middle, who is almost a year old now.
We now Have 5 mama cows expected to calve this fall to give us a herd of around 25 head total and of those 5 mamas we bottle raised 4 of them. Next year Lord willing we will have 8 to give us a fall calf. Out of everything we have raised, these 2 right here made us who we are, gave us the strive to make it and made me a believer in my girl telling me not to worry because she can handle it.
Thank you sweetheart for the lady you are and for helping me with this debt filled dream that we are living. AND not only for raising us up some good heifers but making me a little girl dad come December of this year. I love you.
