Wow! What a day out.

I was excited to be in the woods. I was excited for the peace and quiet. I was excited to listen to the little critters run around. I was excited to get to see a deer or two plod through the woods. I would have been ECSTATIC with a doe, no way was I expecting a sizable buck to come through, and to give me a nice clean shot. Video in comments of how we got this guy up the hill.

What a great first experience out. Alex says I’ll be chasing this dragon for awhile, but I’m okay with that. I’m mostly excited to add to our freezers and get to feed our family.

Packaged up the rest of the chicken!

All in all The Little Green Farmstead and I picked up 150 birds (120 for us, and 30 for a friend). Processed 90 ourselves, and outsourced the last 60. Our dehydrators have been running for days with heads, feet, and offal for the dogs, and all of our freezers are earning their keep.

THANK YOU to everyone that came out to help us process! You’re all so so appreciated!

Also a huge shout out to Alex for being so supportive, working all day and then taking on the Mr. Mom role so I can go process, using the free time he doesn’t have to get dirty and help us butcher.

I’m feeling tired, blessed, and accomplished after the last week and a half!

Said goodbye and THANK YOU to the bubbins today. Crazy how time flies, I can’t believe it’s been over a year since we brought our little bottle babies home. I’m so so so grateful that we have such a wonderful opportunity to raise our own meat. We plan on raising more beef, but these guys will always have a special place in my heart. 🖤🤍

FRIENDS

We’re doing a few more rounds of processing this week and weekend. Tonight and Friday evening, and mid morning- sometime in the afternoon(?) Saturday and Sunday. Come help and get some freezer meat! Even better, grab some birds at W474 Richard Rd in Mondovi and we can process them together.

Busy Saturday this week!

We started our meat rabbit endeavor! I picked up our first doe and her six kits (were planning on retaining a doe kit and momma for the breeding program). Helped build the first level of the quail hutch with a friend, and got to meet the Banjo Babies!

We lost our flock rooster about a month ago so I retained some eggs to hatch. After three broody hen mishaps we have three little babies, Piper, Blondie, and an unnamed black chick.
