Something I do miss about Michigan is some of the wildlife. There is a city called Ga***rd that has a giant elk preserve in the center. It has many viewing areas to see them without disturbing the animals. They are respected and revered by locals and visitors alike. The white elk are my favorite.

I will never be nostalgic for the snow, traffic or attitudes of the population but the beauty is impossible to deny.

Good afternoon ❤️. It is an overcast day with occasional showers but it is still beautiful.

This is a downy woodpecker and they are one of my favorite wild birds to watch.

Do you bird watch?

Good morning 🌞 from B.

Some of you insist on calling me Spare as if I'm a tire tucked in the trunk waiting for roadside assistance. I prefer to think of myself as the deluxe backup plan.

Sure, I'm technically an extra rooster, but do you know what comes with that title? Fewer responsibilities. Less paperwork. Zero pressure to supervise the sunrise. While everybody else is out arguing over flock politics, I'm over here finding the premium worms before they've even had time to peck.

Honestly, being second string isn't so bad. If the human ever needs another handsome, talented, charismatic gentleman, I'll be available immediately... after I finish this beetle.

Wishing you the kind of morning where everyone else does the work while you collect the snacks.

Dear Mother Nature, what did I ever do to you?

Really not impressed one bit. How can it be this hot and rain so much? 😭

I have to wear rain gear to do my chores. Trying to get them all used to it. She's one of the birds that was borderline hurting herself to get away so I decided to carry her with me for a bit to see if she'd calm down.

The spotted orbweaver! A friend not an enemy!

* Harmless Pest Control - They are beneficial, docile neighbors whose venom is harmless to humans but excellent for controlling pesky backyard mosquitoes and flies.

*Recycles Webs - To conserve energy, they frequently eat their own webs at dawn to recycle the silk proteins for building a new web the next night.

*Smart Predators - They actively build webs near outdoor light fixtures to easily capture the influx of nocturnal insects attracted to the glow.

Take all the mosquitoes you like!

You may not know this but for several years I owned a small home healthcare business. We specialized in keeping people comfortable in their own homes in their late years. It was one of the most rewarding and heartbreaking experiences of my life.

My favorite clients were a couple (89 and 91 years old) who had been married 70 years. They were still quite active even with their ailments. I loved taking them on adventures and we always had a good time. I made sure to see them every day even if I wasn't the one working with them. They really became part of my family.

Something I thought was beautiful was the husband's ring had been worn down to such a thin string after years of use and so had his wife's. On their 50th anniversary they both got new rings but always wore the old ones too. Such a great visualization of the years they had spent together.

I saw their last day on this earth and decided they would be my final clients. I think this is a job someone can only do for so long but I wouldn't trade that time for the world.

2010, the flock that started it all.

I still can't believe it was so long ago. 16 short years, feels like yesterday. I made a lot of newbie mistakes and learned from them. I lost birds to predators. I had chickens in my bathroom recovering from bumblefoot or being egg bound. I spent a lot of time in chat rooms asking silly questions (I'm sure I asked enough to annoy some people).

We all start somewhere. I still love chickens and I suppose I always will.

He's healing remarkably well considering his circumstances. This is a very sweet cat. Hopefully the rescue will agree to take him.
