Mexico Food Bank Gets “Twisted”
This afternoon, I was asked to do a write-up on why we decided to do a fundraiser for the Mexico Food Pantry. I asked my family what I should say, and their response was “tell them the truth.” So here it is.
We are driving along in the car and reach the intersection of Rte 11 and Rte 13 in Pulaski and I say, “what are we going to do with all the ice cream I have left because I have to winterize the machines on Tuesday?” Seconds later, I randomly state “well maybe I’ll just email my regulars and have them come up for ice cream.” As I’m saying this, I got a text from Tiffany Barlett. Hope reads the text and says that Tiffany must have the same idea because she said her family is in need of ice cream! Everyone in the car burst out laughing. Hope texts Tiffany back and tells her that we’ll see her family at Twisted at 7PM. I then decide that what we should do is put an ad on Facebook that we are offering free ice cream to anyone who shows up from 7Pm-8Pm and if they would like they could make a donation to the Mexico Food Pantry. Hope, my PR person, starts working on the post. Everything looks great and she starts sending it to some of our customers.
Suddenly, Hope is on Facebook and sees that the Mexico Food Pantry was burglarized over the holiday break! We are now just getting to Tubbs Rd and Rte 11. We look at each other and say, “Wow! Let’s do a fundraiser for the Food Pantry!” So, Hope goes back and revises the post.
On the way home, we stop, prep the ice cream machines, and write another post stating that we will be holding a fundraiser for the Pantry from 6pm-8pm.
My employees are amazing! They all volunteered their time with just two hours notice. A big shout out goes to TIFFANY BARLETT, MADDIE AND TILLIE TUNIS, LIZZY LOUIS, MANNY AND MACEY PELTON-VAZQUEZ. There is no way we could have done this without you!
I had no idea how this would turn out, but, let me tell you, we live in an amazing community! People take care of people—that’s what I love most about this community, and why my family and I chose to not only live here, but to start a business here. Not only did we want to help our own family economically, but we also wanted to help others in their time of need.
We feel blessed that we were able to do this. Thank you to all that came out! Thank you so much! May your higher power bring you blessings of good fortune and good health. Please take care of each other and have a great holiday season! Mexico Food Pantry, Twisted presents you with just shy of $800. Thanks to our amazing customers.
