Today I learned to never underestimate tulips.
When we moved into this house, there was this random patch of mystery leaves. No blooms, nothing exciting. It took me way too long to even realize they were tulips. About 6 years ago, I moved one of those little leaf clumps (before I even knew they grew from bulbs). It did absolutely nothing, just popped up a few leaves every year like always 😆 Fast forward to today and I noticed TWO tulips blooming in that exact spot.

Which is wild, because tulips are usually treated like annuals, and I’m almost positive I didn’t even move a bulb when I transplanted it. Nature is crazy and does what it wants.😂

Can’t believe how well our extra fruit bushes and perennials have been selling on Marketplace 😍 I could definitely get used to this and I am already planning on bigger stocks next year.

We’re wrapping up a few spring sales--
• Blueberries (about 12 left)– $10 each (a little smaller/uglier stock, but still healthy and productive!)
• Last chance for Jerusalem artichoke tubers – they’re starting to pop up, so we’ll be done digging after this week

Over the next week, I’ll also be posting (on marketplace) some fresh plant splits—things like oregano, thyme, different mints, and raspberry starts. Still have plenty of black eyed susans and larger Rose of Sharon plants for sale.

Message me sooner if you’re interested!

Pic of a few of our mature blueberry plants. Gotta wrap them or the birds will eat them all!

Blueberry Plants! $15 each or 3 for $40

Healthy 2–3 year old blueberry plants in 1-gallon pots, ready to plant this spring.

Available varieties:

Bluecrop
One of the most widely grown blueberries for a reason. Bluecrop produces large, sweet berries with classic blueberry flavor and is known for being extremely reliable and productive. Ripens mid-season (around July in Michigan) and is great for fresh eating, baking, and freezing.

Jersey
A traditional heirloom variety grown for decades because of its very heavy yields and vigorous growth. Berries are medium sized with a rich, sweet flavor and ripen later in the season, helping extend the blueberry harvest.

Aurora
A newer variety known for very late ripening berries. Aurora produces firm, sweet berries that store well and can ripen into late August or even September in Michigan, extending the season when most blueberries are finished.

These varieties bloom around the same time, so they cross-pollinate well and produce more fruit when planted together. Because they ripen at different times, planting more than one variety can give you fresh blueberries for several weeks through the summer.

Basic Growing Tips • Plant in full sun
• Blueberries prefer acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5)
• Mixing in peat moss, pine bark, or pine needles helps maintain acidity
• Mulch well with wood chips or pine mulch to keep roots cool and moist
• Water regularly, especially the first year
Blueberries are very cold hardy and do well in Michigan gardens.

Late getting taps in, so crossing our fingers we can at least get enough syrup to last us a year. Sap was flowwwing like crazy yesterday! Kids drilled all the holes, and I'm glad we can hand over the ropes more and more these days. 🥰

Anyone out there make their own maple syrup?! It sure beats paying $10 for a teeny tiny bottle at the store (that will maybe last us one breakfast).

Worth the watch to ANYONE considering a puppy.
As someone who has bred our dogs, I did not take the first months of those puppies’ lives lightly. My husband probably thought I was a little crazy with how much effort I put into those dogs 😆 but I meant every bit of it. They were exposed to as much as I could possibly expose them to. Kids, different people, new environments, different floor textures, other animals. They were raised with around the clock care by our entire family.

Was it hard? YES. I quickly learned halfway through that breeding dogs is not “easy” and it’s definitely not for just anyone. We couldn’t leave the house for long periods of time. We cleaned and cleaned and cleaned some more. The puppies peed all over everything in my house 😆 because I wasn’t content leaving them in a pen outside all day. I wanted them inside. I wanted them well socialized. I wanted them prepared before they went home.

When I added up all the hours, the work, the vet bills, and the supplies we purchased over those 12 weeks, I realized I made about $30 an hour. Which isn’t bad, but the truth is it wasn’t just me sacrificing. It was our entire family pouring time, work, and love into every single puppy.

Will we do it again? I’m still undecided 😬
The puppies were adorable. My kids learned so many lessons. And I truly believe we helped make 10 families incredibly happy. But it was still a big sacrifice.

All that to say, if you’re thinking about purchasing a puppy, please do your research on the breeder. Yes, parents should have health testing. But just as important, make sure those puppies are well socialized, loved, and intentionally raised during those first critical weeks before you bring them home. I am not knocking breeders who have multiple mama dogs in their care, but I often wonder how in the world it is genuinely possible to fully socialize that many puppies well. It just does not seem humanly possible to give each one the kind of individual exposure and attention they truly need.

The first 12 weeks matter more than people realize. 🐾

I personally think they calm down around 24 months, but still pretty accurate 😆

If it’s not written in a chaotic notebook, does it even count as a garden plan?
Adding new beds this year, sticking to permaculture principles, disease resistant varieties, and attempting to grow as much of our own food as humanly possible.

Is this my go-to seed company? Also no. (Shout-out MIgardener and Twilley Seed).

Will I spend 2 hours reading it like a novel because spring feels emotionally unavailable right now?
Absolutely. 🌱😂
