To nourish the lives of the homebound and other people in need through programs that promote dignity Frozen weekend meals are available as an extra service/fee.
This service is maintained by volunteers who deliver the meals and assume their own transportation expenses. Meals on Wheels provides nutritionally balanced meals to your home between 11:15 & 12:45 each day, Monday through Friday. Special diets are available as ordered by the recipient's physician.

Meals on Wheels will be CLOSED on Friday, December 23, 2022 due to extreme weather conditions.Therefore, there will be NO DELIVERIES. Please prepare for this weather event so that you and yours remain safe and warm. We will also be CLOSED on Monday, December 26, 2022, in observance of the Christmas holiday. We will resume regularly scheduled deliveries on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
Clients please use meal 1 from your blizzard boxes.

Meals on Wheels La Porte County is offering raffle tickets for those stocking stuffers you are still shopping for. There are raffle tickets for a Chicken dinner for six(6) at Galveston Steakhouse in Michigan City or Steak Dinner for six(6) at Portofino Grill in La Porte. The ticket sells for $10 per ticket or 5 tickets for $30. Raffle ends on December 31,2022 and the Drawing will be held at the Meals on Wheels La Porte County Office in Michigan City on January 3, 2022.

Meals on Wheels LaPorte County delivers a nutritious meal, a safety check and a smile that serves as a lifeline to seniors of limited mobility. This combination goes well beyond fighting the battle against the hunger that threatens one in six of America’s seniors – it provides the support and peace of mind that enable them to remain safely and securely in their own homes as they continue to age. Enabling seniors to stay in their own homes means they remain happier, extend their independence and can stay connected to the communities and surroundings that provide them comfort. The powerful side effect of this result is that it means seniors can stay out of expensive nursing facilities and hospitals.

LaPorte Co Meals on Wheels nourishes and enriches the lives of homebound seniors and people with disabilities by providing hot meals delivered daily by caring community volunteers. Clients also receive a Blizzard Box containing shelf stable food at the beginning of the winter to be consumed when the weather prevents the safe delivery of meals.

On this practice episode of GivingTuesdayMilitary (it's only 5 weeks away!!), AFFN set out to give one of the most basic human needs - food! This past Saturday, AFFN sponsored a table and presented an AFFN Matching Grant to LaPorte Co Meals on Wheels at the Trivia through the Ages event at the LaPorte Civic Center! The Grant was given in honor and memory of Merry Rucker, a co founder, Board member, and friend to both our organizations.

I want to give a huge shout out to Meals on Wheels of LaPorte County and the staff of Michigan City office-Cheryl Kruger Daurer, Amanda, and Sheila. The job they do is not easy! Today I assisted Sheila in getting the meals ready for delivery and let me tell you my stress level was high. They just whip through the labels and before you know it the meals are out the door. Yeah, me-not so quick. I'm glad the volunteers were understanding as they waited for me to finish. Next time you see Cheryl, Amanda or Sheila please give them a high five or a simple thank you for doing such an outstanding job.
