Now Open: Breakout session proposals for the 2026 Farm to Plate Annual Gathering. Submissions due by Friday, August 7, 2026.

Vermont Farm to Plate invites those working across Vermont’s food system to submit proposals for the 16th Annual Gathering, November 19 to 20 at Burke Mountain Hotel.

This year’s theme, “Taking Stock and Quilting the Future: Stitching Land, Farms, and Markets Together for a Stronger Food System,” calls on our community to share practical, experience- and evidence-informed approaches that support stronger decision-making and help advance a food system that is just, environmentally resilient, and economically viable.

“It may seem kind of ‘new-age’,” says Karin Bellemare, owner of The Roots Farm Market, "but there are different ways of doing business that are rooted in kindness and respect for the earth and other human beings. That’s what I’m working to cultivate here.”

Connection, community, and sustainability at the heart of Karin Bellemare’s vision for a “new, old general store” in Middlesex. “There’s something larger going on here than bagging greens,” said Karin Bellemare, owner of The Roots Farm Market in Middlesex. “There’s a community connec...

Starting a business with the intention to support local agriculture is the easy part. Growing that business in a way that is both profitable and true to those values can be a challenge. Erika Lynch and Julie Morton, owners of Babette's Table in Waitsfield, dug deep into their business systems, marketing, and projections in order to grow in collaboration with local hog farmers, be good employers, and still make it home for dinner with their daughters. https://www.vsjf.org/2023/05/25/babettes-table-using-projections-to-grow/

Our friends at The Center for an Agricultural Economy are hosting a “Coloring Community: Celebrate Agriculture in Vermont!” coloring contest. Add your own personal flair to the pastoral scene locally designed by Peltz Creative!

Between now and Dec. 31, 2022, download our coloring page from www.hardwickagriculture.org/fun or pick up (and drop off completed pages) in person at the Jeudevine Library or Center for an Ag Economy in Hardwick. Early in the new year, 5 entries will be randomly selected to receive a prize, and to add a little color, light, and sense of community to the cold, short days of winter, all entries will be displayed throughout downtown Hardwick, as well as digitally on CAE’s website and social media pages.

All ages encouraged to color!

Vermonters have always been exhibiting a passion for saving the planet and are becoming more interested in ways they can help reverse climate change. Many communities have begun supporting food scrap composting, with the incorporation of more on-farm food scrap composting, as well as a general increase in personal composting. This allows farmers to connect and collaborate with their local community while managing food scraps. Increasing composting engagement is a fantastic way to build community and help save our planet! Compost is a valuable soil amendment on any farm and can be a value-added enterprise to compliment your farm business. If all the food disposed of in Vermont landfills were composted instead, it would provide adequate nitrogen to fertilize roughly 8,652 acres of mixed vegetables!
