💜 DID YOU KNOW? The Story Behind the Name "Amethyst Creek Farm"
As part of our Anniversary Month Celebration, we'll be sharing a series of "Did You Know?" posts about the farm, our history, and the journey that brought us here.
Today's story is all about our name.
One of the questions I get asked most often is:
"How did Amethyst Creek Farm get its name?"
Most people assume it's because I love purple.
Ironically, purple is actually one of my least favorite colors! 😄
When we first began planning the farm, the original vision wasn't centered around irises at all. We planned to establish large plantings of lavender along the banks of Willow Creek, which runs through the property.
The "Creek" part was easy.
The "Amethyst" part came from the lavender.
In fact, one of our very first farm investments was nearly $500 worth of lavender plants that were destined to line the creek bank and create beautiful waves of purple blooms.
Unfortunately, I promptly managed to kill most of them.
Apparently growing thousands of irises is easier than growing lavender. 😅
The lavender fields never materialized, but the name stuck.
Adding to the coincidence, there was already a single purple iris growing on the property when we purchased the farm. Long before the fields were planted, that lone iris was here waiting for us.
Looking back, maybe it was trying to tell us something.
Today, Amethyst Creek Farm is home to thousands of irises, peonies, daylilies, books, gifts, and countless dreams that continue to grow every year.
So while the lavender didn't survive, the dream did.
And honestly, I think things worked out exactly as they were meant to. 💜
