First day back in the greenhouse at post partum thanks to my carrier and husband (not pictured). Still taking things slowly as I don’t want to rush these precious early days, but it feels good to get outside and be around plants!

Shoutout to both Osamequin and for growing my early season plugs while I was busy giving birth to this nugget. 🐣

MOTHER’S DAY WEEK POPUPS!

Calling all gardeners and flower enthusiasts— I will be popping up next week with dahlia tubers for sale! May is the perfect time to plant dahlias, with Mother’s Day being a classic marker in our climate.

Find me at the Aquidneck Growers market on Wednesday May 6th, 2-6 pm on Memorial Boulevard.

Then I will be at on Saturday May 9th, 9-12:30 at Mount Hope Farm.

I have a nice variety of tubers in various colors and styles. They will come with provided instructions and a nice printed card if you’d like to gift them to your mother, the gardener in your life, or yourself.

I’ll be back regularly at the Aquidneck Growers Wednesday market starting mid June, with cut flowers galore. I pushed back the start date for my own season due to becoming a mother myself this year. 💕💕💕

Our little baby boy arrived this month, just as the daffodils were blooming. 🌷☀️🐥

He has very strong limbs for someone who’s only been on this earth a couple of weeks and a stronger will.

So far he loves Paul Simon’s music, Abbey Road era Beatles, avante garde instrumentals, fresh air, and eating.

I have a deeply renewed respect for anyone who has given birth or is a parent. This is undoubtedly one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and asks everything of me, calling upon resources I didn’t know I had. But it is also deeply rewarding and inspiring in ways I am too sleep deprived to articulate at the moment.

The staff at birthing center was incredible— the nurses created such a soft landing for two nervous new parents. Having this facility in our community is incredibly important and I would have traveled farther to receive the care I did there!

I am doing my best to savor these early days of motherhood but things will be happening with the farm very soon!! Stay tuned 🎶🎶🎶

Dahlia tubers coming out of storage today to start waking up! 🐣

My storage unit method appears to be 90% effective, with only a small amount of loss, which is super exciting!

Here are a few of the flowers I seeded recently that should make their debut later this spring:

🪡Nigella AKA "Love in a Mist" (first two pics). Last year I seeded the nigella in a very w**dy bed and then neglected it. I was so annoyed by the repetitive w**ding and slow growth that I kept saying I would never grow it again! But then it bloomed and...well, I was completely won over. I just love the shimmery foliage and the stunning mix of colors.

🪡 Larkspur (third photo). These plants got incredibly huge and branchy-- some of them nearly my height! I had to cut them down considerably just to fit them into my car. I loved the plants' vigor but not the grape purple color that dominated the mix. Lesson learned-- this year I am growing "Pink Queen" and "Misty Lavender," two straight varieties from .

🪡Bachelor's Buttons. I didn't take any photos last season apparently, but these were a big hit at Aquidneck Growers Market. They are just so cheery and colorful, and one of the earliest and most abundant cut flowers to bloom.

🪡 Orlaya. I skipped this one last year, but I'm excited to have this delicate lacy white flower to use in bouquets and arrangements. I am growing this instead of Ammi (which everyone mistakes for Queen Anne's Lace) because the Ammi was giving me and awful sap blisters!

🪡Saponaria. Trying this out for the first time and excited to see it in action!

What are some of the early blooming flowers you're most excited to see?

With the weather finally clearing and the ground visible again, I got 1000s of flowers in the ground earlier this week with the help of my brand new seeder.

As you might suspect from this video, we are expecting a little one 🐣 this spring, so I have been on a race to get farm work done so that I can savor being a new parent rather than toiling in the field.

I don’t generally do a lot of direct seeding but this was a way for me to efficiently get lots of flowers planted… without having to lean over my giant belly. 😂

Baby isn’t here yet but we took the new stroller out for a test drive the other day and I can’t wait to use it for real.

We will still be at Wednesday market this season, just starting a little later (June 17th) and will have all of our usual offerings available by June as well.

I’ve been pretty private with personal information since my account went public, but the news is too joyous not to share.

Happy spring everyone 💐 and we’ll see you all in a few months with a tiny human in tow.
