Every Wisconsin Supper Club is unique, and yet you know what to expect when you visit. Its beginnings are far from the Midwest, but it’s easy to see why Wisconsin claims supper club supremacy. Wisconsin’s supper clubs started as roadhouses, resorts and dancehalls where fried chicken and perch were served along with a beer. Eventually these places transformed their food and decor, and as a result,

the classic menu we know and love came into being: Friday fish fry, Saturday prime rib, Sunday broasted chicken and ribs. Plus relish trays, cheese and crackers at the bar and the undisputed cocktail: a hand-muddled brandy old fashioned. But it’s not only the food that draws people back. Plenty of nostalgia is served up with each visit: memories of dressing up for dinner and having your first kiddie cocktail, or going to a high school prom, a graduation, an anniversary or a birthday. It also helps that every supper club is steeped in history, with stories of misfortune, serendipity and mischievous ghosts. It’s fun to imagine that the walls could talk or to go back in time when lobster was a couple bucks and drinks were a quarter. This type of restaurant feeds the soul like no other, and we’re fortunate to have many exceptional supper clubs scattered around the state.

Hey Everyone! Ron Faiola here...I just wanted to post an update for you. I started this supper club journey in 2010 with my PBS documentary film, Wisconsin Supper Clubs: An Old-Fashioned Experience. 16 years later, my fifth (!) book, Wisconsin Supper Clubs: One for the Road, is being released, thanks to the support of supper club fans like you and the kind folks at Agate Publishing.

The preview photos at supper clubs that I'm posting here are outtakes from the book - alternate shots that didn't make the final cut. It's been great reading the reactions you've posted on each supper club and there are still more rare photos to share.

My next destination was the Hillcrest Lodge Supper Club to visit the Halambeck family on July 30th, 2025, in charming Townsend, Wisconsin, located between Mountain to the south and Wabeno to the north. At the Potawatomi Casino a few miles north of town, I won a ridiculous amount of money on a nickel slot - full story in One for the Road, due out in about a month. 🎰

Well, this is a new one... From the AI Overlords of Faceplace: this page is not suitable for those under the age of 18. Not sure why photos of prime rib and fish fry are unsuitable. Could it be those colorful glasses of sarsaparilla? 🙈 Considering that the age group of 18-24 makes up only 0.2% of the followers of this page, I can't imagine anyone under 18 stopping by for an illicit peek at the demon rum.
