Afternoon check-in at the Hidden Roost Homestead 🌿
The girls got cucumbers and tomatoes straight from the garden today, which they received with the energy of a standing ovation. Then BSFL time — black soldier fly larvae — and if you've never watched chickens absolutely lose their minds over these, you're missing out.
Popped over to the silkies. They were also very pleased with themselves.
And yes, the last few seconds are non-negotiable. My white silkie has a standing appointment. I don't make the rules around here. 🐔

Took y'all on a little garden walkthrough today 🌱 We're keeping it simple this year — tomatoes, two brand new peach trees (first year, fingers crossed), and a bunch of potted plants where I've been playing around with propagation. Nothing fancy, just a small garden and a lot of learning as we go. What's something you're trying for the first time in your garden this year?

Well, this is the part of chicken keeping nobody really talks about 😅 Found remnants of broken egg in the nesting box again — and yep, the girls helped themselves before I could clean it up. We do offer oyster shell free choice, so I’m curious…
