Rabbitbrush honey is not to enjoy on your toast. It does not have a pleasing flavor. It is a very dark bitter honey that serves one main purpose.
Rabbitbrush honey can be a gentle way to help clients slowly build tolerance to the very plant that bothers them. Because honey naturally contains tiny amounts of the pollen from the flowers the bees visited, it also carries the same proteins that trigger seasonal reactions.
Allergy desensitization works only when the immune system is exposed to the exact pollens that trigger symptoms during the season of difficulty, and in their native, intact form. Because IgE‑mediated allergies are exquisitely specific, the immune system must “see” the same proteins it reacts to in the environment in order to gradually shift from an inflammatory response to a tolerant one.
When someone takes very small, controlled amounts of rabbitbrush honey—often starting with just a taste—the immune system is exposed to those proteins in a safe, low dose form. Over time, this repeated micro exposure can help the body become less reactive, easing the intensity of symptoms. In simple terms: the honey delivers the allergen in tiny, friendly doses, and the immune system may gradually learn not to overreact.
When taken consistently, this controlled exposure may help retrain the immune system, reducing reactivity over time and easing seasonal symptoms.
Recommended dose:
Rabbitbrush honey may offer gentle support for those whose allergies are triggered by rabbitbrush, but it’s important to understand that it can also provoke symptoms in sensitive individuals.
Begin with only a single drop once a day—just a small taste on the tongue—to gauge tolerance. If this is handled well, you may gradually work up to ¼ teaspoon daily, increasing only as comfortably tolerated. Discontinue use immediately if any significant allergic symptoms occur. Seek emergency care right away for swelling of the mouth, throat, tongue, or face, or difficulty breathing and stop using the honey at once.
