About a year ago, I became serious about learning how to bake REAL sourdough bread (no commercial yeast). I’ve watched countless videos and make a few flat frisbees as a learning process. At last! I’ve learned how to feed and maintain my 20 year old starter, how to mix and bulk ferment and to bake perfect loaves. Yesterday, my I fed my starters and they were so happy, that I not only baked my 4th loaf of my SD Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread, I made 2 loaves of SD sandwich bread. At last, I got “oven spring” (tall loaves). This is what I’ve worked hard to achieve.
I’m working on writing my SD journey to post on my blog. I’m calling it “Sourdough Baking for Dummies (like me)”.
Both recipes come from That Sourdough Gal

This Strawberry Shortcake recipe is a hybrid between a biscuit and scone. A food processor makes it easy to form the dough. Once sliced in half, it is filled with macerated strawberries and fresh whipped cream. There a hint of sweetness to the shortcake so that the strawberries can shine. Super easy to make! I'm baaaack, after a hiatus. I'm starting to feel better and am ready to resume sharing new recipes. Thank you for all the well wishes. Strawberries are locally grown here, and they're beginning to be sold at our farm stand. I love strawberries, so I'll be sharing some recipes that showcases these gorgeous red berries. Let's start with this recipe:
Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries (or other berries), meringue, and whipped cream. There’s a history where it is said to originate from the prestigious Eton College, located in the UK. The dessert takes minutes to put together and it’s a perfect way to showcase fresh summer berries.

I’m just popping on to say that I’ll be back in a week or so. The day we returned from Hawaii, we learned of a tragic death in our family. 3 days later, another family member passed. We are in Oregon now, trying to help with all the legal stuff as well as emotional. I’ll be back.

We leave for Hawaii tomorrow. Our artichoke plant was generous this year. While we’re gone I don’t want them to spoil, so I cut them in half, cleaned out the fuzzy choke, par
boiled and blanched them and will freeze them. I love artichokes!

I've been perfecting the art of pizza dough and shaping. This Copycat Recipe for Round Table Maui Zaui Pizza was in sore need of better photos. I also rewrote the recipe to be more "fluid". That is, steps in better order. The Maui Zaui pizza features tender ham, crisp bacon, juicy pineapple, tomatoes, red onions, and green onions, with the option of a Polynesian sauce. I've managed to replicate the recipe that tastes just like the one at Round Table Pizza! The sauce has become one of my favorites!

NEW RECIPE ON THE BLOG: Boogaloo Wonderland Sandwiches originated in a 1960's era staple from the now close Brothers Bar-B-Q. The "secret" sauce is the hallmark of the sandwich, often described as a tangy barbecue-style sauce featuring molasses, garlic, and vinegar. Other variations offers versions with steak, chicken, or vegetables, and can include hot peppers. For us, the sandwich reminds me of a cousin to Sloppy Joe's. Lately, I have been focusing ALL of my kitchen time on perfecting the art of sourdough bread baking. At last, my loaves are turning out! The recipe I’ve had the most success with is from That Sourdough Gal. Her videos are so educating. My two loaves are sliced and frozen. Just pop them into the toaster and enjoy!
