Alabama hunters — have you ever seen something in the woods that you couldn’t explain?

Maybe it was something tall, dark, hairy, or human-like. Maybe it was a sound, track, shadow, or movement that made you stop and wonder.

Cornwallis 1828 is gathering stories, sightings, and old family legends from across Alabama, especially in the Black Belt region. We are especially interested in Creek/Muscogee traditions and stories of mysterious forest beings sometimes described as the Hairy Man. One modern Mvskoke name connected to Bigfoot is Este Capko.

If you have seen or heard something unusual in the woods, or if your family has passed down stories like this, please message Demp Bell at Cornwallis 1828 or call/text 251-593-1770.
