We got to add another species to our track list today! Unfortunately no recovery, but I couldn’t have asked for better work out of Paisley when I’ve never asked her to track a turkey before. In fact she was raised with farm birds and told to explicitly leave them alone!
It took her a bit to take the line, probably because she had no idea what I was asking her to do. We had a few feathers at about 30 yards, nothing until another feather at 325, and ended with several spots of blood in and around some dead fall at 400. I originally had assumed he had crawled up under the deadfall, but concluded with assuming he got his witts about him and flew away from there. She worked her tail off in the heat, winded the entire area downwind of our point of loss. Walked out to the field edge where the truck was and sat down and told me she was done and we weren’t finding that turkey.
Thanks for the honest feedback P. Something about a dog telling you when it’s time to quit is so admirable.
Call us if you can’t find your turkey I guess and we shall do our best if he stays on the ground! 🤪
