Based on attitude and feathering both Fireball here is absolutely going to be a menace of a rooster when hes older. I dont intend to keep him but he needed a name 😭😭🐓 goodness baby boy prove me wrong. Or be renamed Nugget ig 🥹😭🤦‍♀️🤞🏻 Danie really wants one to be Nugget 😅😭🤦‍♀️🤨

Here in VT we have had 7 confirmed cases of salmonella from backyard flocks. 🫣🫣

Let get into this a little more.
First let’s say. Most people who get salmonella do not need to go to the dr you just need to make sure you eat and drink as you can get dehydrated fast. That happens when the amazing body we have kicks into gear and make us get rid of things we shouldn’t have in our body.

The only reason we have numbers and what it is is because we have gotten to the point we run to the hospital for every thing. And have to put a name on it for bragging rights.

Salmonella Is a nasty little bug. It does make us very sick so it’s best to prevent it as much as we can. Wash your hands and do not let chickens or chicks touch your face.

Like anything it’s something chickens get just like people get colds or sick. It doesn’t mean the flock is dirty or they are not being taken care of.
It’s passed by mice, rats, wild birds and even insects. It’s passed from p**p to mouth. And anyone that has chickens knows they p**p every where. 

The bacteria can live for a very long time in your coop, dirt, runs and everywhere your chickens go.

So instead of being afraid of it and letting the news freak you out knowledge is power.

Wash your hands.

The only food that is truly safe is 🤔🤔 none! There’s a chance of everything we eat can make us sick.
Either human error, comes from the ground or because it’s part of the animal world and we can’t always control that.

I keep rearranging the kitchen lol
We started small with 4 hens last year that HE wanted.. this year its my obsession. We have 5 actively laying hens now. This is only the 2nd time in a year I've had over a dozen eggs on my counter. It feels really cool 🥹🥹❤️ I cant wait for August for the next set of ladies eggs to start coming in
