Backyard Fresh

Backyard Fresh We grow vegetables, mushrooms and fruits with the intent to promote health and well-being. We have decided to share our bounty with others.

Jim and I are recently retired and love to grow and raise our own food. We will be selling our produce, mushrooms, eggs (July2023), handcrafted soaps and flowers at Antietam Valley Farm Market on the first and third Monday of each month from May to December (5:00 - 7:00 PM)

Unseasonably warm spring pushed fruit trees into early bloom, the hard freeze overnight on April 20–21, 2026, delivered a heartbreaking blow to orchards across Pennsylvania. Our farm, Backyard Fresh is located in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern Berks County. Our small orchard typically yields four to eight bushels of pears per year, this year, we will be lucky if we produce a dozen individual pears. Our Small orchard usually produces 3 to 6 bushels of peaches. This year, we will have no peaches. no plums and no apples. On the other hand, our organic vegetable garden is yielding a crop greater than any crop we have ever generated in the past.

This piece of equipment saves a tremendous amount of time in that you do not have to monitor the temperature and pressure as you would on an open stove. Within this pot, you can pressure can 20 pints at a time. Yesterday, we canned 17 pints of Creole sauce.
