Ditto Foods is a hydroponic farming company that provides fresh produce directly to customers via CSAs, high-end restaurants and wholesalers as well as local school districts in the Chicagoland area. We will grow lettuces and leafy greens in addition to a variety of herbs and root vegetables. We do this with the aspiration to support an emergent local food movement in Ford Heights and the surround
ing Chicagoland communities. More and more people are now living in tightly populated, urban areas and with that comes the increasing demand for locally grown and sustainably produced foods. People want to know the story behind the meal on their plates. Even city dwellers want their food to be fresh and full of nutrients, not pre-packaged and shipped from thousands of miles away. Our climate is also continuing to evolve. Extreme weather conditions are becoming more common and land and water are becoming more and more scarce. Large-scale food production and distribution has had a significant impact on the earth’s ecosystem, and it is continuing to affect our water levels and biodiversity. Transparency is key to understanding where and how our food is produced. Ditto Foods is committed to improving that transparency in the leafy green and herb industry by growing “hyper-local” produce in one of the most innovative hydroponic systems available, Freight Farms’ Greenery. Growing in the Greenery enables us to provide an unparalleled transparency in all operations from seed to harvest and it will allow us to provide our customers with the certainty that they are buying, receiving and eating produce grown via the best agricultural practices available.
