Did you know that peak-ripe tomatoes, sweet corn, and crisp autumn apples overlap right now in mid-September? It is a beautiful—and incredibly busy—time of year in Michigan.

We are deep in harvest and preserve mode. We’re busy sourcing, drying, and blending the finest local ingredients at their absolute peak freshness so we can capture these vibrant summer flavors before winter arrives.

🥣 Well. Soup season has officially arrived.

Yesterday was our first crockpot day of the season at the Trenton Farmers Market.

And today?

I'm out of soup mix. 😂

Which is wonderful. And also a very good reminder that when you come to the market hoping for that soup—the one you tasted, smelled simmering in the crockpot, or suddenly decided you absolutely need for dinner—you might find that everyone else had the same idea.

I was working downtown in a high rise. We had training classes going on in the office, so about 30 of us in the office.

After the first plane hit, staff come to my office to tell me. I just thought, "Oh, that's a horrible accident". Then the second tower was hit.

We closed everything up and everyone started heading for home...well to sit on the freeway because that was everyone's plan. I made it to Allen Park where my sister lived and was home with her young daughter.

My sister and I were watching the the news coverage ever so intently, trying to understand what was happening, when my 3 year-old niece toddled over, turned off the tv, turned on the stereo and started dancing...like she so often did. "No, no, no...we need to watch the tv right now," and we turned it back on. Toddle, toddle, toddle...the tv goes off, the stereo is back on, dancing resumes.

We didn't turn the tv back on after that. My niece was living her best life regardless of what was going on around her and that's the whole point. Hug your family. Love those close. Smile whenever possible. God Bless.

Today marks a very important occasion around here: the first crockpot day of the season! 🥳🍲 The Mason Jar Creameries may have had their summer send-off, but we're officially welcoming cozy season with something warm and wonderful.
