What a Wednesday. 🦙✂️

We made the trip out to beautiful Carms Farm in Colts Neck, NJ this morning for an 8:30 start shearing some VERY fluffy alpacas and sheep!!!

One of my favorite parts of this farm is that everywhere you look there’s another animal… and then another… and then suddenly you’re surrounded. Today we saw camels, bunnies, Texas Longhorns, mini horses, mini donkeys, sheep, bison, goats, alpacas, emus, turkeys, guinea hens, ducks, chickens, peacocks, and even kangaroos!!! 🤯 I’m pretty sure I blacked out halfway through the list.

A huge thank you to my mom, my sister, my friend Nina, and eventually my dad 😂 for all the help today. I seriously couldn’t have done it without you guys!!!

Now… about my shears AGAIN. 🤦‍♀️ They woke up today and chose absolute chaos. They fought me ALL. DAY. LONG. Like full-on rebellion. Then, while I was finishing our very last fluffy friend, they decided it would be a GREAT time to start turning themselves on and off like they were possessed before finally just… quitting. Dramatic.

Somehow, against all odds, we still got our last girl finished, and she happily skipped off on her merry little way looking much cooler for the summer. 💕

Some days everything goes according to plan…

…and some days your equipment decides it’s the main character, the villain, AND the plot twist. 😂

🦙✂️ Saturday’s adventure…

Picture this:

The plan was to wake up before 6:00 AM.

Unfortunately, my first few alarms had other ideas and apparently decided not to go off at all. 😅 So instead of a calm, organized morning, I woke up at 6:00 AM, scrambled to get ready, and somehow still managed to get on the road by 6:50 AM for the nearly 2-hour drive to Colts Neck, NJ to be there by 8:30 AM for 14 alpacas.

What I failed to account for was doing all of this with a sprained wrist. 😤

So there I was—running on a few hours of sleep, determination, a wrist brace, and pure stubbornness—headed south to shear 14 alpacas.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well…

After two rounds of vet wrap, an itchy sweaty wrist brace, and only one bathroom break for the entire day, we somehow managed to get through all 14 alpacas.

Of course, the alpacas weren’t about to make it easy. Between getting tossed around by a few of them and my cutter deciding it was done working with only TWO alpacas left, it was one of those days where every time you solved one problem, another one showed up.

A few of the alpacas spent the day giving us some very questionable looks, and I’m fairly certain several of them were personally offended by their new haircuts. There may have also been some friendly fire launched at their freshly shorn friends when they came back into the herd looking suspiciously skinny. 😂

The real highlight of the day, though, was the baby alpaca. While the rest of the herd was busy judging us, causing chaos, and questioning our life choices, the baby was busy being the cutest thing on four legs and stealing everyone’s attention. 🥹🦙💙

Huge thank you to my crew—my brother, my mom, and my friend Sara—for helping make it happen. There were moments when the day felt like it was held together by caffeine, determination, vet wrap, and pure stubbornness, but somehow we got it done.

The wrist is sore, the body is tired, and I think I deserve an award for surviving on one bathroom break, but 14 alpacas got their yearly glow-up and that’s a win in my book.

Some days on the farm are smooth. Saturday was not one of those days. But all 14 alpacas got shorn, nobody got left behind, and everyone made it home in one piece—which honestly feels like a success. 😂🦙✂️💙

Moral of the story: always test your alarms, bring extra vet wrap, and never trust an alpaca that looks too innocent.

We didn’t manage to get many pictures, but we had a great weekend shearing!

On Saturday, we got the sheep and alpacas at Blue Arrow Farms all cleaned up before the rain rolled in. Then bright and early this morning, we headed out to Shohola, PA to meet some new fuzzy friends and get them summer-ready.

A huge thank you to all of my wonderful clients for trusting Triple T’s Shearing with your animals. I’m especially grateful for the sheep and alpacas that decide to cooperate and make for a smooth, quick shear! 😆

Every farm, every flock, and every new client is appreciated more than you know. Looking forward to many more busy weekends and fluffy transformations ahead!

🐑✂️ A quick thank you to everyone who has supported Triple T’s Shearing!

Since starting this little business, I’ve been amazed by all the support, recommendations, shares, and clients who have trusted me with their animals. As Triple T’s Shearing continues to grow, I’ve been working behind the scenes to make sure everything is set up properly—including officially becoming fully insured!

I’m incredibly grateful for every opportunity I’ve been given and I’m excited to continue growing, learning, and improving along the way.

Speaking of growing…

I’ve been thinking about getting some Triple T’s Shearing shirts, hoodies, hats, stickers, and other goodies made up! Partly because it would be nice to have some actual business gear, and partly because apparently wearing the same shearing shirts every weekend isn’t a great long-term plan. 😆

🐑✂️ In addition to my last post, I wanted to touch on something else I’ve been seeing discussed lately: shearing prices and the difference between slick shearing and fitting. ✂️🐑

A lot of people don’t realize that slick shearing and fitting are two completely different services.

Slick Shearing
🐑 The wool is cut off short all over the sheep.
🐑 Helps keep them cool, clean, and comfortable.
🐑 Focuses on the health and comfort of the animal.
🐑 Typically costs around $15–$30+ per sheep depending on flock size, travel, and location.

Fitting
🐑 Done mainly for show sheep.
🐑 The wool is trimmed, shaped, and blended to make the sheep look its best in the show ring.
🐑 Takes much more time and detail work.
🐑 Commonly costs $50–$150+ per sheep, with some professional fitters charging even more depending on the level of preparation and competition.

To put it simply:

✂️ Slick Shearing = a haircut.
🏆 Fitting = getting ready for a beauty pageant.

That’s why there can be such a large difference in price between the two services—they have completely different goals and require very different amounts of time and labor.

A lot of prices people see online are based on large commercial flocks where a shearer may do dozens or even hundreds of sheep in a day. Small flock and pet sheep shearing is often priced differently because the travel, setup, equipment maintenance, and time commitment are the same whether I’m shearing 2 sheep or 200.

At Triple T’s Shearing, I currently charge $25 per sheep/goat and $45 per llama/alpaca. My pricing reflects the time spent with each animal, equipment upkeep, travel, and my commitment to providing a quality shear while keeping stress on the animal to a minimum.

My goal has always been simple: provide a clean, professional shear while treating every animal with patience and respect.

🐑✂️ Good evening everyone! ✂️🐑

First, I want to say thank you to all of my clients, family, and friends for the support you’ve given me. I’m incredibly grateful for each and every one of you!

As a former 7-year 4-H member and someone who has been shearing for over 3 years, I wanted to take a moment to explain the different types of sheep shearing and clarify the type of shearing I offer.

✅ The service I provide is Slick Shearing.

What is Slick Shearing?

Slick shearing is when the wool is sheared very short and evenly across the sheep’s body. This leaves sheep looking clean, neat, and ready to stay comfortable through the warmer months.

Other types of shearing include:

🐑 Commercial Shearing – Removing the fleece primarily for wool harvest. Typically removed in a “blanket”

🐑 Crutching/Dagging – Only removing wool from certain areas to help keep sheep clean and comfortable. Rear-end, udders, between legs.

🐑 Blade Shearing – Using traditional hand shears instead of electric clippers. The longer process of things.

🐑 Blocking/Fitting – Trimming and shaping wool to achieve a specific look without shearing the sheep down short. Also using traditional hand shears and getting blisters on your hands.

One thing that is very important to me is working with the animal instead of against it. Every sheep has its own personality, comfort level, and way of handling being shorn. My goal is always to keep the process as low-stress as possible while providing a clean, even shear.

I also believe in being honest and transparent. Shearing involves very sharp equipment and live animals that can move unexpectedly, even when they are being handled correctly. While every precaution is taken to work safely and carefully, minor nicks and cuts can occasionally happen in the shearing industry.

I am not perfect, and I am always learning and improving my skills. What I can promise is that I will always do my absolute best for both you and your animals, handle them with patience and respect, and take responsibility for my work when mistakes happen.

Whether you have one spoiled pet sheep or a small flock, I truly appreciate you trusting me with your animals.
