You never know what treasures you might find when you're just out exploring the farm. When I was a kid, I used to "hunt quartz" all the time. I've had some pretty amazing finds over the years. These are just a recently sampling.

Usually, the herd is on to literal greener pastures by the time I drag the fields. But not this year. And they were very curious as to what “Mom” was doing. 😂

This was one of those mornings that I looked at the task ahead of me and thought, “I wonder if I can actually pull this off by myself.” 😂 Not only did everything work out fine, there were no wrecks. I’ll take it!

40 cows and heifers, 21 calves, 2 big bulls, 4 little bulls, and many hours later, the herd is wormed and content back in the field. Whew! Other than the wind, it was a pretty enjoyable day.

“Little 18” and I have officially become friends! When we first started this process, she definitely kept her distance. These days, she’s much braver. Brave enough to lick my hand and test whether or not I’m edible. 😂

Of course, she’s still hanging out with Aunt 57 who came to investigate yet again… 🙄 And by “investigate,” I mean shove her nose directly into the camera to check me for snacks. 🤦‍♀️

She bit me!! 🤣🤣

Little 18 is working very hard on deciding whether I’m a friend… or a snack. We’re currently in negotiations. 😂

Truth is, this is one of my favorite parts of raising beef cattle. The quiet moments. The trust-building. The curious, little noses. Even the tiny surprise nibbles.

She’s learning who I am. And I’m learning who she is going to be. This is how good cows are made - one gentle interaction (and occasional nibble) at a time.
