We're often asked if we do U-pick, and the short answer is "no." As you can see in this example of the strawberry farm, a lot can go wrong... from people stealing, to damaging the bushes, etc. We have limited U-pick, it is friends-and-family, by invitation only. You have to know the owner or one of us managers, and you have to be "trained" to participate. We only have U-pick on appointment. Last night I happened to be at the patch when a lovely couple showed up wanting to fill a grocery sack full, because their boss told them they could come pick. Thank goodness I was able to give them a basket (and box for transport), show them what and how to pick, and explain why the plastic bag was bad (makes your berries sweat, and moisture is the enemy of berries... that's why they never come in bags at the store). Aggressive picking/having a heavy hand can bruise your berry. Picking an unripe one will have you thinking our berries are sour and no good...trust us, we have our reasons. Maybe as we expand in the future, we can incorporate U-pick, but for this season it is still a no-go for the general public. If you all would like us to consider a public U-pick in the future, leave a comment below. We'd love to hear your thoughts.
We can’t believe we have to ask this - but please do not tie the strawberries to the sides of your basket. When we say fill the basket, we mean the inside only - not the outside. Today a guest bought a basket that holds two pounds of berries max, but they tied another 6.5 lbs of berries to the outside. We weighed them.
This guest was furious at us for asking them to pay for them, stating it’s not posted anywhere that they couldn’t do this. It is now.
It’s apparently a TikTok trend, but please - stop doing this. Those who do, will be charged for the extra berries.
I borrowed this photo from the TikTok video I found. I did not have a chance to capture a picture of the people who were doing it - however, our manager did and that photo is now posted at Upick.
Back to info you came here for…
Upick Strawberries will be open Friday at 9am, but please note the fields have been well picked and may close early.
We hope to have the fields open for the weekend, but again we do expect them to close early each day. Please check the post Saturday and Sunday to confirm they are open throughout the day.
We expect the field to be closed Monday.
