Ok, I have been seeing this thing where people who work for DoorDash and the like are demeaning their patrons for not tipping enough during the time the roads are slick out there. As you know, I own Discount Delivery of Morganton and I want to respond to this.
First of all, it is NOT the obligation of the customer to tip you. Hate to tell you kids this but it isn’t. I started delivering almost 30 years ago when I worked at Myra’s in high school. I went on to deliver for Doogies Pizza, Pizza Hut of Valdese and other places I had worked at through the years. In 30 years I have never heard of anyone complaining over the amount one is tipped. I have only heard it in the past 5 years from individuals who are entitled.
Secondly, we choose to do the job we do. Our choices to do what we do is not a forward obligation to the customer. Sorry it’s not. We make the choice to do the work we do. We don’t dictate to the customer, our job is to serve the customer. End of story.
Third, with Discount Delivery I am the only driver. But I also know with DoorDash and Uber Eats, you get to choose if you work or not. You signed up for something, you can complain about not being tipped enough, you can complain about getting hit because of the roads being icy but the fact is it was YOUR decision to go out in this. YOUR decision. Keep that in mind.
Finally, I have been seeing people suggest that people shouldn’t order delivery at any time if they don’t tip 35%. That is ridiculous. Let me give you a reality check. I have worked as a waiter as well for many years. And here is what has been followed for years. Ok service=5%. Decent service 10-15%, great service 20%. This 35% figure is what is being passed around so people have an excuse to take advantage of their customers.
Just know Discount Delivery will NEVER treat you, our customers, like the drivers of these other companies do.
