Making memories!
We have been so very blessed with all the help putting up hay this year, this was our turn to give back a little. Hard to beat throwing bales behind Dad and his JD with some outlaw country playing in the background♥️
If we had more time to sit and write today, we’d put into words how heartwarming and fulfilling it is to do this together, to spend time with family while lending a helping hand. These are the things a blessed life is made of!

Last week was CRAZY to say the least! Aside from picking over 100lbs of tomatoes, we also worked together (with some help from the amazing Chad-Natalie duo) to get second cutting off the south field! The house may still be a mess, laundry needs, put away and floors need cleaned, but we sure put in our work this week!

When it gets quiet over here you know something’s up.. Well, here’s what we’ve been up to the last week!

Two and a half batches of our brand new cold-processed, triple infused Jewelweed soap! We are pretty proud of this one, but will be struggling with patience while we wait for it to cure. Then will be the real test!

As for the rest, we made 22 pints of salsa, 9 quarts of stewed tomatoes, 4 pints and 11 half pints of ketchup, 8 quarts and 11 pints of tomato sauce and 4 quarts of tomato juice. To say it was a lot of work would be a serious understatement! But again, we had some great help and managed to complete the job with only one all-nighter on the books. Huge shoutout to Sydney for helping us get started last week and Mom Burns for coming by to help for several hours on her day off work. We are so blessed! Now to see how much the garden has gotten away from us since we were out there last week 👀

It’s a solemn day today…

If you are old enough to have memory of when those planes hit, you really will never forget. It is our job too, to make sure later generations hear the stories, the memories, the ways life changed. We remember the victims, we remember the witnesses, we remember the heroes who risked their lives and those who sacrificed their lives. We will never forget.

Well, we gott’er done!
Huge thank you to Sydney Dielman for all the help yesterday! That is the quickest, most efficient canning session we’ve have had yet this year! It definitely helps having a second person processing and helping with kiddos.♥️ Another 23 pints of salsa ready for the pantry. Next stop, ketchup!

A day in the life and it’s only 9am

Early mornings call for a second cup of coffee by the time most people are just starting their work for the day. This is what it looks like trying to feed two babies and a toddler while picking produce and canning.. amongst the other chores. Not gonna lie, the house is a big mess right now and breakfast is yet to be had. But, we are giving it our best shot! So, with a sleeping baby in the carrier and a cup of coffee in hand, we are getting back at it! Happy Thursday y’all! Time to go grab the kiddo and get back to work♥️

We are still trying to navigate the balance of work and play for all of us here on the homestead. A lot of these pages and TikTok‘s that pop up seem to portray a perfectly balanced lifestyle, people who have it all figured out. Though we know it isn’t true, there is a temptation to view these people as perfect at this crazy balancing act. You’ve probably seen it too: the perfect homeschool mom, homesteader, beginner herbalist, gardener, carpenter and so on. The social media world doesn’t see why lies behind the photos and videos.

Truth is, it isn’t about being perfect or having it all together. It’s about growing, learning and teaching the important things in life. It’s about learning from your mistakes, trying to do better, learning from the people around you. This picture captured one five minute activity (if that) in an entire day of Elsie.  we probably had the TV on too long and didn’t spend enough time on letters and numbers. But that’s how it goes sometimes. The cool thing is, she wasn’t told or asked to help. She just came up and said “Momma I want help.” And she did. So we will celebrate those victories and try harder tomorrow to come closer to balance. We love this sweet little girl and her desire to help in so many different ways!
