10 more jars of jam put up yesterday. And the house smelled like blackberries yesterday. By tomorrow I’ll have enough again to make jam.

The last of the blossoms on the blackberry bushes. They’ve been good to us this year. I have put up 3 quart jars and 12 pints of jam already. And I have 4 new plants that have propagated off of the older ones.
Just because the blossoms are finished it doesn’t mean that we won’t have any berries. Eventually that’s true. But for now the branches are heavy with fruit.

Blackberries. Guess which berries are from the thornless and which are from the thorned blackberry bushes?

Fox 🦊 is back. Comes in and checks things out. I’m pretty sure he’s just looking for a bird that didn’t make her way inside. These chicken tractors are predator proof.

Lambs.

Yes! Lambs and adult sheep frequently use head-to-head contact to communicate, but the meaning depends heavily on their age and the exact way they do it. It is a complex physical language used to play, show affection, and establish dominance.Specific head behaviors include:Playful Headbutting: Young lambs often frolic and "bonk" heads for fun. It is their equivalent of wrestling or tag, allowing them to test their physical abilities and blow off energy.Bonding and Affection: Close members of a flock will gently bump or rest their heads together. It serves as a physical sign of friendship and trust.Establishing Dominance: Adult sheep (especially rams) will drop their heads and present their foreheads as a challenge or an aggressive move. It is used to establish pecking order or tell another sheep to move away from food or water.

Good morning from our young buck, Beau. These guys are already getting into rut. If you’ve been around bucks, you know.

Cherry tomatoes.

As I start planning our garden I always try a few new varieties. This year I chose a new cherry tomato to add to the garden. Planted Burpee’s Sweetie Organic Tomato. It’s an heirloom variety that was described as “Bite-sized tomatoes, deliciously sweet, are produced on vigorous plants”.

The small cherry tomatoes are my old stand by for cherry tomatoes and the larger are the new Sweetie tomatoes. To say that I was surprised by the performance of the Sweetie tomato plants is an understatement. This is one day’s harvest of both from the garden. I get so many more from the Sweetie plants. And the fruit have that wonderful “grown in the garden” flavor that is lost from grocery store tomatoes. More than one bite but still small enough to snack on while you’re working out there or walking past and decide to grab a couple while on your way.

This one may have earned a permanent spot in our garden in the future.
