I’ve never needed hen saddles before but the cockerel in my heavy bloom pen is quite… ahem… active, and a couple of his ladies have suffered some feather damage/loss on their backs.

I assumed the hens wouldn’t immediately love the saddle. But I was NOT prepared for the absolute panic that took over the rest of the flock after I put the first one on.

They were convinced she had morphed into a monster and when I say absolute chaos erupted I’m not exaggerating.

🤦‍♀️ chickens, man.

It’s broody season!

This Langshan hen went broody so I gave her 4 Olive Eggers out of my incubator. They had saddled air cells from shipping so I already wasn’t sure how it was going to go.

Over the next week I noticed her off her nest a few times just taking a dust bath and relaxing… my other broodies were rarely caught off their eggs.

But she hatched all 4! So I gave her 8 more out of the same hatch and she’s doing a fantastic job raising 12 babies for me.

(I got distracted talking to the rooster in that pen because he’s the best.)
