Got the last few test runs done, and we’re getting close to bringing these to the site! We’re hoping to have them listed this week. We’ll be offering everything from simple, clean handles to more decorative designs, with a wide variety of woods to choose from. 🔥⚒️

The trouble with having an overly creative mind is that starting new projects comes easy… finishing them is another story. Before you know it, you've got a shop full of ideas and a long list of unfinished projects. 🔥⚒️

One of the things we love most about doing shows is getting to talk with the people who stop by the table.

They’ll pick up an axe, turn it over in their hands, and start asking questions.

“Did you make this by hand?”

Yes.

“The sheath too?”

Yes, by hand.

Then usually comes the one about the haft.

For a long time, that answer has been, “No, we source those locally from an artisan who hand-makes them for us.”

And there’s nothing wrong with that. We’re proud to support another craftsman and we still are.

But somewhere along the way, we started asking ourselves:

Why couldn’t we learn to make them too?

So, that’s what we’re working on.

We’re nowhere near calling ourselves haft makers yet. The first video is simply a yellow pine test piece.

The second is maple, carved by hand, and will become the haft for a personal axe. Once it’s hung, we'll get in in woods so we can see how the shape, balance, and feel hold up

The process itself is nothing new. Men have stood before the fire and worked steel into axes for hundreds, even thousands, of years. Generation after generation, the craft has endured.

And so we carry it forward.

Not simply to make another axe, but to preserve a tradition — to create something worthy of being used, worn, sharpened, and passed down.

Perhaps one day this axe will find its way into the hands of someone who values not only the tool, but the hands and history behind it.

Something made to outlive its maker.

Something that, Lord willing, might be handed down from generation to generation, for as long as men still work with their hands. 🔥⚒️
