Rocko’s Modern Reviews: Stop #5 Dave's Cosmic Subs - Mt Vernon 🔥☮️
This stop is a little different for us because it’s not somewhere we can exactly give you an unbiased review — it’s somewhere Paul and I spend a whole lot of our time. And while we’re obviously biased, we still think Dave’s deserves its own Rocko’s Modern Reviews spotlight.
We’re both part of the team at Dave’s Cosmic Subs, so we’ve seen this place from both sides of the counter… although we definitely spend more time behind it.
We’ve survived the crazy lunch rushes, huge catering orders, training new employees, losing staff, equipment deciding not to cooperate at the absolute worst possible time, and all the random things restaurant life throws at you.
If you’ve never had Dave’s, these aren’t your basic meat-and-cheese subs. The menu is full of loaded combinations, bold flavors and plenty of Dave’s Psychedelic signature sauce. Add in the fresh-cut fries, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño popper bites and all the other things that suddenly the sub was just the beginning 🤣
From the rock n’ roll atmosphere and music to the beautiful murals, it doesn’t feel like your typical sandwich shop.
But Dave’s has become about a lot more than food for us.
Fun fact: Dave’s was actually the first place I ever grabbed lunch for Paul and me before we were even a couple. 😂❤️ I got the Sloppy(which has since been discontinued, he got the Grateful Dave… and apparently neither the subs nor Paul ever really went away.
So when we say Dave’s has become about a lot more than food for us, we really mean it.
It’s the people whose orders we know before they say them. The guests who have been coming in for years, the college students who stop back in when they’re in town, and the new faces who eventually become regulars. That’s the part of Dave’s you don’t really see from a menu.
It’s also the employees we’ve watched grow, head off to college and move on to their next adventures. It’s the friendships we’ve made, the people we’ve met, and all the memories that come from spending entirely too many hours together.
Restaurant life can be chaotic, exhausting and unpredictable, but Dave’s has also given both of us opportunities to grow, introduced us to a lot of people we’re genuinely thankful to have met, and allowed us to help create an atmosphere that we’re truly proud to be a part of. ❤️
There’s something pretty special about looking around and knowing you’ve had a hand in creating a place people enjoy coming to eat, hang out, chat, and come back to again and again.
So, no official Rocko’s rating on this stop — we know exactly where our bias lies...
