Harvested our Freedom Ranger meat chickens last week. The freezer is full! Only 5 Red Bourbon turkeys this year to be harvested in November...we love knowing where our food comes from and that the animals are treated humanely.

Harvested our Freedom Ranger meat chickens last week. The freezer is full! Only 5 Red Bourbon turkeys this year to be harvested in November...we love knowing where our food comes from and that the animals are treated humanely.
We have 20 doelings and 26 bucklings for sale. They are 100% Kiko but non-registered. All be ready for weaning by June 20th. All of our livestock are raised on organic, Non-GMO pasture / feed. All the kids will have received their first de-worming.

Excited for the spring babies to arrive! Meat chicks, layer chicks, turkey chicks, piglets, and don't forget the goat kids...only two more months! Hurry up spring.

With the temps dropping we will be setting up music in our beautiful wedding tent and move heaters inside. There will still be some seating in tasting room and under patio for those who would like to utilize. Here is final lineup:

Hens at the hopper feeder we added to the mobile chicken coop...used up some scrap wood we had around the farm!! It will hold up to 4 bags of feed.

2017 kidding season

Spring has definitely sprung here on the Rahn Ranch!!! The hens are laying again; the does have been kidding; and the garden is tilled and ready to plant!
So far, we have had 14 baby boys and 13 baby girls (goats). They are so entertaining to watch. Kidding season is my favorite time of year. They are just so darn cute...
Our new automatic chicken door ! Opens at daylight and closes at dusk!!! Working on getting an automatic waterer system hooked up to the coop next...

We still have a few pastured, non-gmo fed Red Bourbon heritage breed turkeys available. The expected weight of 6-18# fresh turkeys will be processed and ready for pickup Tuesday or Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They are $5.50/ lb.

One of our Buff Orpington hens decided to go broody last month. Her efforts have been rewarded...a chick hatched out in the last 24 hours!! Three more eggs on nest may also be viable. Time will tell! (It takes 21 days for a fertilized egg to develop and hatch)
Lost one of our Red Bourbon turkeys from Monday's high winds when their hoop house caught a gust and blew over, injuring one.
We still have 21 turkeys left for the Thanksgiving holiday available for purchase.

We wound up with 30 baby goats this kidding season. They are so much fun to watch at play!
We have also added 29 guinea chicks to the mix this summer.
Out of the 51 new laying chicks we got this spring, we had 18 survive the buffalo gnats that swarmed the ranch for 3-4 days earlier this summer...at least one turns out to be a rooster! They have started laying eggs and will soon be incorporated into the main chicken coop.
The time to harvest the last of our meat chickens is around the corner...I know what we will be doing next weekend!!
