Some mornings, taking care of the flock means carrying a little more than feed.

It means paying attention. Watching how much they eat, checking their water, making sure the fans are doing their job, and noticing the little things.

It’s a lot of work, but these everyday routines keep the girls happy and the farm moving forward. 🧡

There’s something about the quiet parts of the morning.

Opening the nesting boxes.
Gathering each egg by hand, one by one.
Chickens wandering in and out of the way.

Nothing particularly exciting.

Just one of those little pieces of farm life that makes up the day.

And tomorrow, we do it all again.

Gathering eggs pretty much always goes like this …Open the boxes, gather the eggs, find a cracked one… and then suddenly the chickens are going crazy because I tossed it to them. 😂

And of course, there’s always a kid nearby with a thousand questions.

A lot can change on a farm in a month.

The little chicks we shared a few weeks ago aren’t so little anymore.

The pullets have grown.

The laying flock has changed.

And the weather decided to give us a little bit of everything.

We went from weeks of rain to the kind of Texas heat that slows everything down. This summer has affected egg production more than we have seen in past years, reminding us once again that farming is always changing.

And honestly, change isn’t always easy.

It means adjusting, learning, and sometimes doing things differently than you planned. Never a dull moment at the farm 😉

Tiny little chicks that fit right in your hand.
Then somehow, you blink and they’re not little anymore. They’re walking around the farm, following you like they’ve always been here.
And then one day… you find their very first egg.
I think that’s one of the sweetest parts of raising animals. You don’t always notice the growing until you look back and realize how much has changed.
