Just a quick hive update. Sorry it’s been awhile. Our original hive is doing great after the spilt and building numbers. The swarm we caught is doing fantastic and have been able to add a super on for them. As far as the 4 new nucs that we got, one is doing great and we’ve added a super to it but the other three just aren’t building as we want them too. We believe that there’s not enough wax on the foundations for their liking so we are adding more wax to them and hopefully they start building those frames out and can grow and be healthy size before end of summer.

Hey friends! Did a hive inspection on our pink hive (original hive) this afternoon. We started feeding this hive in the early spring to boost their numbers going into the first bloom. Well with all that preparation it worked too well. The hive did a split and the queen swarmed out with half the colony. In the inspection today I found a lot of honey stores and nectar. There was around 5 or so queen cells present and I was lucky enough to hear a virgin queen pipping in the hive. So hopefully she will have a successful mating flight soon and start laying. We look forward to seeing what this new queen will do and hope that the swarm finds a great new home! 💛 Monday we pick up our 4 new nucs and look forward to sharing that with all our friends out there!

Swarm update!! The swarm that Sunny and I caught on Sunday is doing very well and bringing in lots of pollen and nectar. We will be moving them into their hive deep box this weekend. 🐝💛

This Mothers Day I gained a couple hundred more dependents… our FIRST swarm of 2026! 🐝✨
Lowell climbed the ladder while I joined him in the sacred art of bee negotiations.

Hey friends! Here is what we use for our smoker. Just a piece of cardboard rolled up tight, then wrapped with some burlap and then tied off with a piece of jute. With this we have been able to get the smoker to last for an hour to an hour and a half straight. If we s***f it out we can get 2-3 uses out of it. Hope this helps! Just getting all our friends updated on our shenanigans. So Luminary has had a lot going since last summer. We have made a move from our location in Argos to the Milford area! We are so glad to be here. Going into winter we had our strong and a weaker one that we rescued out of a fallen tree. The strong hive we moved into the new apiary and the weak one we kept in our backyard to keep a better eye on it through the winter. Coming out of winter the strong hive did great and is building up for the nectar flow as we speak but sadly the last cold snap leaving winter finished off the weak one. This spring we have done a lot to get ready for this year and painted some boxes to get ready for the expansion. Growing from 1 hive to 5. We are excited to have this growth and didn’t want to go too big that way we can still put in the same amount of care and love into these girls. We will be filling the new hives with some nucs that we ordered and hopefully we will remember to take lots of pictures for our friends that are following us. 💛 As always, Thanks friends and bee kind to our pollinators! 🐝🦋
