WINES ~ Nashville WINES ~ Wine Initiative for Nashville Enthusiasts & Sommeliers Please share your , , and with us here!

WINES ~ Nashville is a group of local wine enthusiasts and sommeliers who enjoy gathering together to intelligently discuss wines. We believe that the enjoyment of wine is heightened tenfold when we can talk about wine among friends. Yes, we might use words like nose or bouquet, and say that we smell or taste fruit, earth and wood in our wine - but we promise it's not in a stuffy, overbearing way! Jennifer McDonnell, CMP, CPCE
Introductory Sommelier, WSET 2

Wine History: Agoston Haraszthy, often referred to as the father of the California wine industry, died on July 6th 1869. Originally from Hungary, Haraszthy played a major role in California's wine history, establishing the Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma in 1856. A steamboat captain, a sheriff, viticulturist, winemaker, and author - no big deal. http://ow.ly/9DvN301ergE

Rose is passé?!? Red, White, and Blue?!? It's true!! A few entrepreneurial 20-somethings in Spain have created a blue wine from both red & white grapes. The coloring comes from anthocyanins and indigo (already present in red grape skins and giving red wine its color). Inspired by the book Blue Ocean Strategy they have created a new genre in a world steeped in tradition. What are your thoughts on their efforts? Are you curious? Do you plan to try this sweet white-wine like elixir?

The summer's new drink isn't white, red or pink. It's blue! But would you drink it?

"...all the men there knew the seriousness of their action. They had signed their names to a document that would serve as the foundation of a new nation, or the evidence the British would cite when they hung them for treason. Clearly, a drink was called for. On such a momentous occasion, only Madeira would do." On this day, July 2nd 1776, the Continental Congress adopted a resolution severing ties with the Kingdom of Great Britain, although the wording of the formal Declaration of Independence was not approved until July 4th.

Madeira wine was the drink of choice in early America, drank to toast the signing of the Deceleration of Independence and Washington's 1st Inauguration!
