Our crews see a side of the ocean most of us never will.

The high-quality maintenance of our vessels plays a vital role in both the safety of the crews and the efficiency of our trips.

Earlier this month, the F/V Kyler C headed to the J. Goodison Company's shipyard for some new improvements!

The vessel underwent an audio gauge inspection to check the thickness and condition of the hull’s steel. New Marport sensors were also installed to help monitor net spread directly from the wheelhouse.

The bottom of the boat was also power washed and repainted, along with the installation of new zincs to help preserve the steel and protect the vessel over time.

Updates like these are essential in ensuring our fleet operates safely—every fine detail matters.

Our friends at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center are celebrating 10 years of preserving and sharing New Bedford’s commercial fishing story—a mission we firmly stand behind at Canastra Fishing.

The event on June 11 will feature live music, fisherpoetry, exhibits, cake, and much more to help the organization kick off their year of celebrations.

In seafood procurement, most problems don’t start on the water. They happen somewhere in between.

Straightforward processes can quickly turn complicated when there are too many hands involved. Every handoff between vessel, processor, distributor, and buyer creates another place where things can slip.

When you work directly with the vessels and the dock, there’s clearer accountability—and fewer layers usually mean fewer surprises.

For buyers, that means greater consistency, clearer traceability, and faster answers when questions come up.

Next up in our Meet the Fleet series: the F/V Heather Joe.

Daughter of Patricia M. (April’s Meet the Fleet feature) and wife of Butch Payne, partner in the Canastra Fishing Fleet, Heather was born and raised on the water in Montauk, NY and grew up watching her dad swordfishing. She has always felt connected to the ocean and even learned how to swim at three years old.

In her free time, Heather teaches yoga, loves gardening, and spends as much time on the water as possible, especially paddleboarding.

Some people find their way to the water. For Heather, like many of us on the waterfront, it’s always been home.
