Brody is getting the quail aviary skirted and buried today for me before he leaves again tomorrow. He’s just the best! 🥰 he sacrifices so much of his time for my little dream and I couldn’t be more thankful, and am ready for things to slow down for us so we can connect more and he can rest.

and maybe tell me what you use in your quail aviary when it’s on just dirt/grass lol. I need something easy to clean, and probably can’t do sand at the moment just due to the cost. Wood chips? 💓

Set the trap up tonight. 😤 I think I scared it off the other night shaking animal crackers for the goats to come back to the barn from free range, so I didn’t notice it. All the birds and stuff are fine, the quail hutch’s light plug was loose and turned off, and some things were scattered, so I know for sure it was at least one racoon. Also is that a tapeworm it has segments 🫣🫣🫣 bleh 🤮

Cockerel/rooster for 💰 🥰 about 6-7 months old now and Finally figuring out who is who lol I can get better photos later he was just zipping around for food.

this handsome boy is either hatched from an olive egger or one of my BBS ameracauna covered by an Ermine rooster. He is clearly NOT ermine as you can tell, he has leakage. My hens lay blue and dark olive eggs and unfortunately, I don’t know which one he hatched from 😂 $20 FCFS. (Also willing to trade for some raw honey or something like that!)

Pick up springport, IN. will require half to hold more than 2 or 3 days. 💓

You can eat him if you want or keep him! It would be cool if he went to another free range flock to be a protector, as his dads are very good protectors, and they all leave people alone besides for feed. But ultimately that is up to the buyer.

Being quoted $19,000 to switch my (now unusable, thanks to a cracked heat exchanger) propane furnace to electric because my 2019 air conditioner unit will need replaced as well due to the EPA just changing their rules w***y nilly might be my villain origin story 😩😩😩

Did you know certain plants (especially some invasive species) can increase tick populations in your area?

Japanese Barberry is one of them, apparently!

I was walking meatloaf and thought it was pretty, took a picture to look it up and saw this!

Other tick loving invasive plants (at least for Indiana) that you can pull and replace with native species include:

-Amur Honeysuckle, AKA: Asian Bush Honeysuckle
- Multiflora Rose
- Low-spreading Junipers (these are low to the ground so they block air flow and protect mice especially in cold weather, which harbor ticks)
- tall ornamental grasses
- Pachysandra (similar reasoning as low spreading juniper and adds leaf litter)

I think I’ll research this some more and make a post later about non native plants, why they are threats, and native alternatives for them. If anyone is curious like me! 💓

Hatching Eggs 🐣 17 total (was going to be 19, but the 2 smaller ones in the top left I’m noticing seem to be pullet eggs, so I won’t be selling those for hatching) 🌸

With and without flash for color reference. Some of these are rich browns but most are deep olives! ☺️

let’s put our thinking caps on about why this topic is circling again in the middle of record amounts of food recalls, when they’re trying to push lab grown meat, when federal parks and protected lands are being contracted out for logging/mining, and when data centers are still being developed.
