This might not look like much but let me tell ya, the water still flows!!!! For those of you who know us, you might know that sometimes in winter, the water line to our barn freezes. When this happens, it requires soooooo much more work. We literally haul water to the animals. It is in those moments, I have the strongest desire to leave this place. I've even been known to say, "if someone walked past and offered me $1 for all of this: the house, the farm, the people, I'd take it!" We made it thru the polar votex (-50 wind chills....not even kidding) and OUR WATER STILL FLOWS!!! #forevergrateful

It's rhubarb season!! We'll have some at the market on Friday. We LOVE rhubarb! You can make all sorts of things. One of our favorites: Rhubarb Simple Syrup - mix 1:1 water and sugar. Cook that until the sugar is dissolved. Throw in some rhubarb chunks, turn off the heat, let it cool then strain it, put it in a mason jar and enjoy! We make a wonderfully refreshing drink with 1/3 rhubarb simple syrup to 2/3 seltzer. Love it!

Okay, we're gonna try this again! We'll be at the New Glarus Farmers Market this Friday, May 18 from 3-630pm with TOMATOES and other transplants. Come on out, y'all and get some of these beauties. They're tall, strong and ready to go right into your garden!

05/10/2018

Well, best laid plans.....mother nature just isn't done with us! Tomorrow is supposed to be super rainy with a high of 46 degrees......not great weather for tomato transplants. So, we WON'T be at the market tomorrow. Bummer. We will try again next week. We've just worked too hard all winter to have something happen to these beautiful tomatoes! **If you would like to get some transplants next week, please contact us via messenger and we'll make that happen!

If you can't make it to the NG Farmers Market, we can work out a delivery/pick up!

07/12/2016

Ok folks, we are taking orders for beef. Butcher date at Hoesly's Meats in NG, 8/18 (after it's aged, it'll be ready for pickup/delivery 9/1). We are selling bulk amounts (1/4 or 1/2) for $6.00 per pound. Too much beef you say? That's okay! We have smaller sampler boxes too. The sampler boxes will come with a variety of cuts from inventory (nothing weird, just your normal roasts, steaks, ground, etc). A small sampler box is $100. A larger sampler box (about 35 #) is $225. We will also have a LOT of ground beef for sale. $6 per pound (comes in 1 pound packages). All meat is raised here on our farm from birth. Grass/alfalfa fed (from our own hayfields), hormone/drug free.

01/24/2016

People are curious. Here's a little glimpse.

11/06/2015

We are now sold out of bulk amounts of beef! Wow!! That was fast. We will still have a few Sampler boxes if you are interested. Thank you for supporting a small, local farm!

11/01/2015

We have a very limited amount of beef for sale. It will be ready around the 11 of December. All of our animals are humanely raised. They have access to inside and outside at all times as they choose. They are grass-fed, grass-finished and graze on our chemical free farm and are fed our chemical free hay. They are Red and Black Angus.

We are selling 1/4s at this time. It is $6.00 per pound (this includes everything) and is processed at Hoesly's Meats in New Glarus. If you purchase a 1/4, you decide on how you would like it cut. It comes cut to order (how many pounds do you want your roasts? How thick do you want your steaks? etc) and I will bring it to you or to a location that works for both of us. I know 1/4 of a steer might sound like a lot. It is typically about 5-6 roasts, steaks, 40-45 pounds of ground, stew meat, tenderized round steak (if you want that), etc. It is all cut up and wrapped individually to your specifications. You could always go in with another family (or 3) to split it up. Buying it in "bulk" is the cheapest way to go but, we do also have Sampler Boxes. These boxes are 10-15 pounds of instock meats we have (will be a mix of steaks, roasts & ground) and are $70. You can try out our meat this way and see what you think!

Let me know if you have questions. Email or call/text at 608-444-8812.

Ask Well: Is Grass-Fed Beef Better for You?

Ask Well: Is Grass-Fed Beef Better for You?

Grass-fed beef tends to be higher in some nutrients, and studies suggest it may contain fewer bacteria that can cause food poisoning β€” which could be good for your health.

We are currently taking orders for pork.
> We raise piglets all summer & fall. We purchase these piglets from a nearby farmer (Mt. Horeb). They have been with their mamas prior to coming to Sunflower Hill Farm. They then live & root & sleep & root & eat & root here on the farm in a large area especially set up for them. They have access to inside & outside at all times. We feed them a non-GMO feed we have milled especially for our little darlings. We also feed them tons of fresh veggies & all our kitchen waste (not meat, however). In late fall (probably early December just in time for the Holidays!) they go to Hoesly's Meats in New Glarus.
> You can have your 1/2 cut anyway you like. Hoesly's is very accommodating. Most people go with a standard cut order which includes 2 hams, ham steaks, ground pork, pork sausage, chops, roasts (picnic & shoulder), and, of course, bacon. We typically have breakfast links and brats for sale as an addition to your 1/2, if you'd like to add that on.
>
> This past year, the 1/2s were on the average 75 pounds. The cost this year is $6.00 per pound (this includes everything: raising, butchering & delivery).
>
> I will also put together smaller meat boxes. They will be 20 pounds for $140 or 50 pounds for $325.
>
> If you have any questions, you can either email or call/text Jodi at 608-444-8812.
> **Oh, and this year, refer a friend who hasn't purchased meat from us before and if they make a purchase, you get a gift box of Sunflower Hill Farm meats valued at $30. Thanks in advance for spreading the word about our farm!

Okay, so beef will be ready around April 1 (no foolin'). $5.50 per pound for 1/4. If that's too much beef for your freezer, you could split a 1/4 with a friend. We also do smaller boxes but the best price is when you buy larger amounts.
