Founded over 25 years ago, FOOT offers a unique wilderness experience to about 500 Yale freshmen each year! In late August, trained upperclassmen lead four- to six-day pre-orientation backpacking trips in eight scenic locations throughout the Northeast. The trips are designed for all levels of experience—both novices and skilled mountaineers will find the trips rewarding. About one-third of the fr

eshman class each year choose to begin their Yale journey with FOOT. Going on FOOT means starting off freshman year with a close set of friends, a diverse community of upperclassmen to help you out, and an endless supply of good stories. It doesn't matter if you grew up exploring the forest in your backyard or have never seen a trail before in your life—FOOT has a multitude of trips that are suitable, challenging-enough and enjoyable for everybody!
