It is time to clear the rumors friends!
In March 2022, Nick and I went to the stock sales to buy two pigs to raise for ourselves because I am allergic to antibiotics and hormones that they put into animals. We left with four pigs instead of two. Next thing we know we are buying registered Berkshire’s for breeding and raising top quality pork through the forest never looked back!
We started at The Athens Farmers Market April of 2023 and the rest is history. We ended up producing for the masses. If you have eaten Avalanche pizza that had sausage on it or at Casa with a pork dish, or Chelsea‘s real food truck, Hei Hei, and others, then you have enjoyed our product and we thank you for that!
With all of that being said… A very short week ago we had 70 pigs on the farm. We had a variety of pigs, including registered breeding stock, month old piglets, to feeders of multiple sizes. On this day in history, all of our pigs have been sold or spoken for. Our kids are finishing their sophomore year and will be graduating high school and fleeing the coop sooner than we know it. We have decided to take a step back from raising pigs and focus on soaking up all the time possible with our kids. We have learned a lot and met some pretty incredible people along the way. We thank you for all of your support along the way! Who knows, we may get bored once the kids are gone 😉
This Saturday March 8th from 10-11am Athens Farmers Market is holding a “What does it take to be a farmer?” Q&A for the public inside the community center. They have asked us to be on the panel of farmers who answer questions! Come see us answer all the hard questions about pig farming!
